They are trying to remain focused on their equipment rental business. That's apparently much higher margin than distribution and sales of equipments.

BATON ROUGE, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--H&E Equipment Services Inc. (“H&E” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: HEES) today announced the signing of a definitive agreement to sell its Komatsu earthmoving distribution business to Houston, Texas based Waukesha-Pearce Industries, LLC (“WPI”). The transaction includes rights to the distribution of earthmoving equipment in the state of Louisiana and counties located in southwestern Arkansas, along with a distribution facility in Kenner, Louisiana, and certain other equipment, parts and supplies. Also, H&E will assign to WPI the outstanding lease on its distribution facility in Bossier City, Louisiana. H&E will retain ownership of its rental assets located at the remaining seven rental branches in Louisiana. The transaction is expected to close by December 31, 2022, subject to customary closing conditions.
Brad Barber, chief executive officer of H&E, stated, “Just over a year ago, we completed the divestitures of our crane business and Arkansas earthmoving distribution business, significantly reducing our exposure to distribution activities. With the sale of our Komatsu earthmoving distributorship in the state of Louisiana, we are effectively completing our transformation to a pure-play rental business. This final step will allow us to sharpen our focus on the higher margin rental business as we continue our evaluation of strategic-growth opportunities in the equipment rental industry.”
Founded in 1961, H&E Equipment Services Inc. is one of the largest rental equipment companies in the nation. The Company’s fleet is among the industry’s youngest and most versatile with a superior equipment mix comprised of aerial work platforms, earthmoving and material handling equipment, and other general and specialty lines. H&E serves a diverse set of end markets in many high-growth geographies including branches throughout the Pacific Northwest, West Coast, Intermountain, Southwest, Gulf Coast, Southeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Heard about this last week, I don't know if I had an inside source or if this was common knowledge...?

Sad that Texas companies have to move here just to buy a company

My dad was working for Head and Enquist in March of 1984 and drove the company car to the airport.
John Enquist, founder, was in Dallas meeting with a potentially HUGE client. He had gotten word of what his #1 Salesman had done and was unsure of what he was going to do.
As he sat down at the meeting the client asked if he had heard about the shooting in Baton Rouge knowing Mr. Enquist and H&E were based out of Baton Rouge. He simply stated that he had heard the news.
The client looked at Mr. Enquist and said, "They ought to give that man a key to the city!"
That's when Mr. Enquist said, "Well...you know...he is my top salesman!" Securing the client and...well...you see how H&E has grown.
And that is the story of how my dad didn't lose his job!
Which is bonus TD material because I didn't mention that story in my book.

MFG love rental yards cause they buy a ton of equipment. They get treated like kings.
MFG can be a pain in the arse to dealers. So i can see H&E seeing the dealership model as more trouble than it's worth.
I've been out of CE for a while so correct me if I am wrong. Komatsu makes some good equipment, especially excavators but is seen as secondary to Cat, Volvo and even Deere

With rising prices and equipment lead times rental business has been red hot for a couple years now.

Good story. Have an upvote, Jody!

I was a fan until they came out swinging against SG, for whatever reason.
My prediction is that it's only a matter of time before their whole operation is Texas bound.

Yeah if they want to play that game, they are asking for blow back.

Probably.
If they are in love with Baton Rouge so much, why not built a beautiful HQ building downtown? They haven’t. And they won’t.
They don’t want to live with the political positions they’ve taken. frick them. I’d respect them more if they put their money where their mouth was.

Like Todd Graves' bullshite about how the Raising Cane's home office is still in Baton Rouge.

Volvo is the clear leader in this market. Cat has the name, but their time has passed. Volvo is eons better quality.

John, Jr., is one of the leading opponents of Santo Jorge and has threatened to move from the area should the new city become a reality.

Their pay scale sucks and their mgt is buried in political BS.
But, they seem to be good at making money.

Yeah. The board meets in Baton Rouge, but the overwhelming majority of jobs that come with a corporate HQ are in Frisco, TX....
Who is really getting the economic impact here? Similar to Amedisys. It's based in Baton Rouge but most of the HQ jobs are in Tennessee.
I'm hoping that once Cane's matures and accomplishes most of their growth targets, they move the rest of those jobs back. But I'm skeptical.

Similar to how none of these people have kids or grandkids in public schools yet turn their nose up at St. George citizens wanting better schools.
