Also seeing what time this post was made. I was making a work call in the parking lot of the Chevron on 73 and 30 from 9 to 10.

Nothing happened (or see you all in hell)

A) you realize the tax breaks are only for 10 years right and without them we would lose those expansions? they would go to texas, so better to get something after 10 years than nothing for all.

You realize that the plants are going to just build something else in 10 years to get the tax break again right? And what company in their right mind is going to dig up a billion dollar factory and move it all to Texas over a few million a year in taxes? I can understand the tax subsidy for the initial build, but the rest is just fluff.

And maybe the math works out in Ascension, but the paper mill in Washington Parish is a negative asset.

It is like that stupid "why Louisiana stays poor" youtube video that gets circled jerked on reddit every few months.

They do, mr. irony, posting your stupid arse comment from either your cell phone or laptop that has chemical products all in it.

Your schtick is old and tired.

Ranked 4th best overall in State.

How do the schools in Bogalusa compare?

Grammar much?

To is used as a preposition.
Too is an adverb.

Wrong again.

Also, I'm not sure about Ascension's tax base as it applies to school funding, but household income is ranked #1 in the state.

You’re perfectly good to live your life without the products that petrochem plants provide.

Have fun with that!

You do realize that industry donates a ton of money and a shite ton of school supplies to the nearby public schools every year, right?

More than likely a small leak thus the shelter in place inside the production unit.

If the plants activated the community alarm system every time of the plants has a leak, it would go off so often it would start getting ignored by the public.

The same as the rest of the country, actually

They are actually funded more per student than man private schools in the area, especially elementary and middle schools

So is that why when Shell Convent shut down Ascension parish school system had to fire 24 teachers?

I know you think you’re smarter than all of us dumb petrochemical baws that are too stupid to write an in depth thesis debating if Hamlet had Bi-polar disorder, but you should get your facts straight before you spout off and disparage an entire industry, economy, and essentially a profession.

It isn't BASF's fault that the State of Louisiana run the Board of Education like a coke addict runs a tiddy bar. As for not having to pay their taxes, you have something of a point, but the chemical company did not write the tax code.

As for the cancer rate, as soon as you, me and everyone else in the world can live their life without the dozens of things these plants produce within an arms reach of us right now, the company would certainly dissolve and we would all CERTAINLY be better off. And no, there is no "safe" way to manufacturer the by-products of fossil fuels that have made just about every technological advance a reality in the last 100 years.

i realize im just a dumbass engineer but let me break it down to you

1) yes they build new units after about 10 years, guess what.....the units they built prior are not subject to the new property tax break. They only get it on the initial build for 10 years. it expires after that and is very very very rarely extended. You are showing complete ignorance here

2) i didnt say anything about digging and moving an existing plant. are you under the impression that they get tax breaks on exisitng plants after the 10 years are up and that plants dont pay taxes? because if you are....well you are a special kind of stupid

but they would stop building new unit or plants here and you could kiss all those high paying jobs good buy.

as far as the paper mill in washington parish, if its been there for more than 10 years...it pays taxes unless your local school board is dumb enough to keep granting excemptions. Did they get the excemption for the 52 million dollar upgrade last year.....im sure they did but it will only be on the 52 million upgrade, not the whole plant. and you are telling me a company that ~500 direct employees at an avg salary of over 85k is a net negative asset for an area as poor as Bogalusa?

you realize IP is one of the largest employers(maybe the largest i dunno) in the parish right? the median HOUSEHOLD income in Bogalusa is 31k....so a company that employees ~500 at 3 times the median household income is a net drain on the economy??? how fricking stupid are you??
