I remember when Chief Gruber was blasted over the Cedar Grove riots. I think that was the major turning point for Shreveport.

Gruber warned the city that unsavory elements had infiltrated from the West Coast, and people didn't believe him.

I always sort of held the notion in the back of my mind, that I'd like to go back to Louisiana, maybe retire there, but every time I go back that notion dwindles, a short visit is good enough

One of my Navy buddies ended up at Minot for TAD shortly before he retired.... went back to east coast then retired to Minot.....and he grew up on the east coast.

I'm not familiar with this story.

was accused of murdering a Shreveport ad man who'd accused D'artois of paying him for ad work done for his re-election campaign, with public funds, D'artois died before the trial, was never convicted, didn't seem likely that he would have either

Does Shreveport still have issues with the bloods and crips? I remember that being a thing in the 90s up there but they never had a big presence in South LA. We just have little neighborhood street gangs/thugs.

some of those replies are pretty stupid, I can see then as the guys sitting around in the barracks with Sgt. Hulka when he's asking them a little about themselves, military employs a lot of civilians and they do their share, or more, depending on the posiiton

Moved from Shreveport to Lake Charles 41 years ago and never looked back. My wife is from Benton and we pass through Shreveport to visit her family. Other than that I have no need for Shreveport.
