My first thought was that this guy must be getting ready to retire. USAF brass is going to have a cow when they read that story.

And every elected official in the state. I think LA has a couple on the ASC in DC. They will not like seeing this.

Barksdale will never close

Wrong. Shreveport Bossier better get their heads out of their asses because Barksdale is in a precarious position...here is why:

The only airframe left at Barksdale is the B-52. The B-21 Raider is the replacement and is almost certainly headed elsewhere. Global Strike can very, very easily relocate to Minot or Ellsworth, or any of a host of other locations. The B-52s are legendary, but they aren’t going to last forever. Barksdale could be without a flying mission in the next 10-20 years, easily.

Barksdale has a reputation as one of the worst bases in the Air Force, it’s much worse than Minot and even Cannon. Sticking your head in the sand and thinking Barksdale will never go away as a recipe for disaster.

I’ve never seen a letter like this from an installation commander, at the right start brief the OSI guys even “recommended” concealed carry to everyone, also something I’ve never seen at a base.

Bossier can’t keep sticking their head in the sand and saying it’s a Shreveport problem. A tipping point is being reached.

I think Bossier is trying to do something about it. Bossier has police patrolling all over the place. You can hardly go 5 minutes driving in Bossier without seeing a squad car.

I don’t know what the frick Shreveport is doing. Think about the leadership of the city the last 15 or so years. Cedric Glover, Ollie Tyler (who is a murderer herself), and now this Adrian Perkins dumbass. It’s not going to get better until they’re willing to go into their own neighborhoods and shut this shite down.

It’ll never get better until the local, state, and federal government stop subsidizing these people’s lives.

You make good points
I can not imagine how fast that area would die if that base leaves

Whatever bad happens to Lewzianer, it's much deserved.

If S/Bossier actually cared about cleaning up crime and putting an end to that shite, they'd actually do it.
Same goes for NO.

B-21 Raider

I think Ellsworth has already been named the first base to get the B-21 and the initial training base. Isn’t KBAD the school house for the BUFF?

Obviously a lot to change before B-21 is operational but this isn’t a good sign for Barksdale.

The BUFF is going till 2044, so Barksdale isn't going anywhere.

I have no doubt they will be in service until 2044. But I think they will be operating at reduced numbers, likely down to one wing instead of two, phasing the Raiders in. The Buff isn't tied to Barksdale in any real respect whatsoever. In fact, it would make a hell of a lot more sense to put them all together at Minot, co-located with the missile fields so you only have to operate one storage area. Space is probably the only prohibitive factor at this point, but that can be fixed, especially if you reduce the number of airframes.

The A-10s were here for 30-some years and a lot of folks thought they would never leave either...

How do you know the goings on of the Air Force if you’re a 10th Mountain guy? Not saying you’re wrong or anything, because I’m not that steeped in what goes on in the Air Force and the planes coming down the pipe. Just curious.

Just out of curiosity- what should be done?

All of these 5 murders seem like really unpredictable crimes.

I mean, poverty breeds crime, but it’s cyclical.

Barksdale shutting down wouldn’t affect Shreveport nearly as much as Bossier. Bossier would be seriously in trouble.

Since I’ve been in command as of 18 June 2018, we’ve experienced an unprecedented, nine fatalities associated with Barksdale AFB. Five murders, two suicides, and 2 deaths from natural causes.

Shaw AFB had three airmen die over a two week period this year. Military bases and training environments kill more SM's every year than combat operations.

Supposedly the base in Minot has lots of issues with de-icing in winter as the weather obviously isn’t conducive to easy operations. Not saying barksdale will continue to exist in its current form forever but Minot would cost more and involve more logistics to house all the planes if nothing else for to the northern plains weather. No doubt that crime has had a mini escalation in s/br but it’s not unlike a lot of other mid size us cities. The main problem is Texas is less than 20 miles west with good schools, infrastructure, good government, and no state income taxes. It sucks as a Louisiana citizen and business owner to decide when enough is enough.
