Chuck’s style probably wouldn’t dominate in the modern MMA with all of the well rounded athletes of today but he was soo fun to want and was definitely my favorite.

Chuck’s game plan was to stuff the takedown and start swinging like a wild man. He left himself open so many times when he would punch and he was knocked out a ton of times late in his career.

I'd love to see Gracie vs. Jon Jones both in their prime.

Or Gracie vs. Silva

Mirko Cro Cop - "right leg, hospital; left leg, cemetery."

Former Croatian anti terrorist squad leader, insanely powerful and quick legs, and all around bad motherfricker.

Not only that but they also fought like an 8 man tournament in 1 night. No weight class, no rounds, to win you had to win 3 fights in 1 night. Quite a few times people would win and couldn't continue because they were injure. Gracie was the most unassumi my guy and took down dudes double his size.

All 3 of his fights would combine for less than 2 rounds in moden MMA.

And the unassuming part is dead on. Ken Shamrock thought he was a karate guy when he looked at him. He said he gave Gracie a 0% chance to beat him. He was choked out less than a minute later.

Royce Gracie. He won the Ultimate Fighter competitions back when there were no weight classes. He was about 6'1" and about 180 lbs - fought unclassed matches.

The athleticism is better now, but UFC was way more entertaining before it got so watered down with so many weigh classes and events. They used to only run a handful of shows a year and they felt like a bigger deal, and you could name every champ in every weight class even if you only casually followed. And it seemed like fighters were more unique. Guys like:

Chuck
Tito
Matt Hughes
Rich Franklin
GSP
BJ Penn
Cro Cop
Wanderlei Silva
Rampage
Randy
Tim Silvia
Fedor
Forrest Griffin
Anderson Silva

Some of those guys are still around, but overall the above guys were more exciting to watch and follow, even if they weren’t as good as some of the guys today.

Rickson, one of his brothers, was a much better fighter and jits guy than Royce. Grand Master Helio picked Royce generally because he was the runt of all the brothers and the family wanted to show the world that if Royce could dominate in UFC, BJJ was legit and by and large, so were the Gracies. This comes from Royler, one of the others brothers, who I am under in BJJ.

GSP and Anderson Silva could have fought each other when both fighters were in their prime. It is a shame this fight never happened.

Wanderlei Silva for sure...at least the juiced up version in Pride. Not the washed up model in UFC that didn’t allow soccer kicks to the head

Yeah but Royce was the only one doing Jiu Jitsu back then in the UFC. He was bringing a gun to a knife fight. Now everybody does Jiu Jitsu and if you are only one deminsional you will be exposed.

Shout out to prime Rampage. He was never the baddest, but maybe the most fun to watch:

If that gif of Wanderlei in the match where he kneed his face into oblivion and then threw his arse out of the ring?

Royce...is there really any other answer?

Maybe Dan Severn if you want brutality.
