I liked The Woodwright's Shop, it was amazing how much work went into making things back in the day.

I watch Holmes whenever I can on the DIY network. Some of the stuff he does is total overkill but it’s a great show.

Loved the Woodwright's shop. Watched this and This Old House with my dad all the time. The only show he watched I couldn't stand was the New Yankee Workshop. That dude had tools I knew I'd never be able to afford and he just pissed me off, even as a kid/teen.

I don't get the Bob Vila hate. They had a great show.

Maybe it was because he was a yankee,I don't know.

I liked the show,it sucked when he left.

Roy Underhill G.O.A.T. There's just something so satisfying about hearing chisels and planes and augers slicing through seasoned wood.

Norm had more practical advice but I got tired of hearing him talk about dados

I know. I was referring mostly to the way the show ran back then with Norm and Bob and all the contractors. It just seemed to be a lot more information driven than fluff

Apparently we aren't watching the same show, because that show is nothing but information driven today. Literally every segment is showing what they are doing.

Very little fluff in my opinion.

Not really OP. Due to the fact that those guys had unlimited money backing them. The avg Joe had made what he did with what he had on hand as we still do to this day. Old saying," if there is a will, there is a way".

love shows like that. I have absolutely no experience doing anything that requires actual skill when it comes to handy work, but I really enjoy watching stuff like that for whatever reason.

I was the same way. When I was a teenager, I had to ask my parents for a drill for my bday bc we didn’t have one. I learned from trial and error.

Then YouTube came along and showed you how to do EVERYTHING. I have since replaced an entire shower including mud bed and tile work by myself ( other than the glass door). I ripped it down to the studs. It was so satisfying and my home renovation project are now a hobby of mine.
