My friends say over 1000 teacher vacancies in Louisiana. And on Facebook ads alone private schools aren’t fully staffed either

The good teachers get out of education after five years max. They can’t stand the lack of accountability put on students and parents, they can’t stand being thought of as unprofessional, they can’t stand working hard and getting paid the same as the drone teachers that give the profession a bad name, they can’t stand the administrative level that have never taught telling them how to teach. So they come into teaching with high hopes, dreams, and ideas of making an impact. Then reality hits them in the face and they get out. And all we’re left with in the education system are the drones.

Pay is a big factor, but school safety/student discipline is a larger factor.

I teach at school that has maybe two or three fights per year and every student is at or above grade level in reading proficiency, and we still can't fill all of our spots. Each year, we lose at least two to four teachers with less than five years of experience to Texas. Pay and better living conditions. I am beginning year 17. I'm going to try to make it to 20, then take early retirement here (40% pay and full insurance) and take a job in another state. Once the kids are out of the house, the wife and I will be RV/Van lifing in Colorado.

Does anyone want to attempt to find the common denominator behind teachers and police officers either leaving or retiring at a crazy pace?

Teachers are fed up with wild, disrespectful repeat offending kids who don't have any fear for doing such things above. A kid at ALL ages in school will in a heartbeat tell a teacher to "frick off" and the cops can "come get these nuts" as my friend who teaches tells me these fricked up things. They will hit a teacher, fight one, curse them, threaten the teacher. The board personel only cares about lawsuits and a teacher to them is truly just a number, especially in Louisiana.Teachers are quiting left and right. Kids go to the office and are right back in class. It happens over and over and over and nothing really happens. Then most of the parents defend their kids with 4/5 teachers and support staff in the meeting telling the parent what the kid is doing and the parent blames the school. Teachers by the thousands all across America are moving out of the profession. Ask any teacher. Any teacher that gets in here and says otherwise is lying. Frick all that noise.

Pile crazed nut parents and school boards on top of the low pay and other stress and this news is not surprising.

Teachers are by definition well educated people who can choose other career paths.

The Public School ship is starting to run aground.

I have said this many times here : public school needs to end.

I taught for 22 years in the inner city schools of Baton Rouge not to get rich or to have 2 months off in the summer. I honestly thought there was a need. I found out different. Most of the 'parents' are looking for a babysitter, most of the kids don't take getting an education serious. Someone mentioned that they only had a couple of fights a year at their school. The last year where I taught we averaged 6 a day, not counting the girls doing tricks in the bathroom. I pulled kids off sheriff deputies that were trying to stop them from breaking up fights. The year before I left 8 of our teachers left. My doctor told me that I saved my life by changing careers. Stress can kill you and I wasn't gong to die for some little high school shits.
The pay is ok but it is not worth it.

The only schools we should have should be private or religious.

Capitol Middle used to have mounted patrol at bus duty in the afternoon. You would hear the click-click-click-click-click-click-click of tasers daily. Bathroom entrance on nearly every hall smelled like a bong rip convention. CKAP kids all had beards.

Middle school. lol

Tangi parish still living under a desegregation lawsuit from the 50's. Every administrative hire for the last 10 years has been a minority. All the principals and vice principals. An overload of unqualified administrators. Quotas being kept as to how grades are rewarded. And if a certain demographic is disciplined more, you get the picture. It started while we were students 50 years ago. And it has only gotten worse. Teachers love their jobs and students. But certain students are disruptive and the teachers hands are tied. Call it what you want. Teachers don't like being threatened by students or staff.

Overpaid boomer bloat in the districting and superintendents and assist superintendents and assistsnt to the assistants of super intendants and director of janitorial services and director of book acquisitions.... All make a bunch of money. Meanwhile teachers are working 2 jobs to feed themselves.

Boomers ruined public education. Not respecting teachers and not paying teachers for a few decades and the brightest minds in high school and college said frick that.

I’ll say it. Teachers are full of shite. They espouse ‘doing it for the kids’ but at the end it’s really about money and their own well being. Probably my most loathed group of ‘professionals’ in America.

The way these heathens act these days can you blame teachers for not wanting to teach

110%.

50 years ago, teachers didn't feel out of control because they were given the freedom to discipline, had a principal that had their backs and would lower the boom on students if necessary, and most parents on the same page.

Today those are ancient ideas and classroom behavior is shite. As a result, there are fewer interested and those that are have issues, such as being sexual deviants.

This is on the state legislature. Each year it seems they are making laws designed to make it harder and harder to remove discipline issues from school.

It cant be like that all over the country, unless this is something new. I had friends who could not get teaching positions for years after school.

Tie welfare benefits to grades.

A gets 200%
B gets 120%
C gets 100%
D gets 80%
F gets 60%

Tie principals grades to standardized test results.
