The amount of bad aviation takes in this thread are what I love about the OT.
For the pilots involved:

Yeah, Len and Terry were both retired, Len retired as a check airman and Terry was just behind me in seniority, super guys, lots of kids and grandkids lost their pops yesterday

it's an accident. there is NOTHING intentional.
this video is an interview of the p-63 pilot...

There are multiple angles of this accident on YouTube.

Cockpit view of a P-63.
Not a very obstructed view. I do feel he was probably banking looking "up" (trying to find the B-17 that he thought was further down range because of a loss of situational awareness). He likely never saw it directly in front of him, hence no evasive maneuvers

Damn, that's horrible...I took this picture of the b-17 several years ago...prayers for all involved...

Dallas M.E. reporting total of 6 fatalities from yesterday's crash
Sounds like two pilots in B17, 1 in the KingCobra, rest were spectators.

I’m assuming those guys all have a briefing together to discuss the flight? That most of it is planned out? Obviously these accidents are rare, but those guys don’t train together or anything really right? I’m curious what the initial plan was in relation to the flight path that actually occurred?

Thank you. That is a lot more visibility than I would have thought.
Obvious it was some sort of accident since there is zero sm or friends reporting any issues. Just eerie.

BS. Most small aircraft ‘pilots’ are nothing more than average Joe’s looking for a thrill.
I wish FAA would get a strangle hold on pilot licenses. Flying an airplane isn’t the same as burning it up on a jet ski.
It appears the smaller plane pilot thought he could floor it and make the turn before hitting the bomber. Bad pilot.
You know the vast majority of airline pilots had to start in single-engine piston aircraft, right?
Nobody is "thrill seeking" in a cessna 172..

Sorry to hear that about your colleagues....
Having flown on the Collings Foundation Nine-O-Nine which crashed a few years ago, this hits a bit. Been a fan of the B-17 since we got a copy of Edward Jablonski's book "Flying Fortress" when I was quite young; the book came out in 1968 (I am 59 now).
Condolences to all...

Maybe, just maybe everyone aboard that B-17 were angels on everyone’s shoulders yesterday afternoon?
That video in particular shows that P-63 just slamming directly into the B-17, so much so, it just disintegrated instantly. From the multiple video angles available it sure seems conceivable if that pilot had become incapacitated and not collided with the B-17 it was on a collision course with that hangar/grandstand area where the general public was congregated?
I hope that pilot in the bi-plane on the runway was in church this morning, he may have been the luckiest man on the planet yesterday.

So 3 spectators on the ground were killed?

I thought that too, but I think it's a perspective thing. Looks like the majority of the wreck and big fireball were well behind the biplane in relation to the camera.

Flying in back of the B-17.
They do ride alongs a lot In those. Could have been friends/family or paying customers. It would still be a dream of mine to take a ride in one.
