figured the OT would be place, though the MB may be better, considering the amount of talk we have over TX, LA taxes as it relates to school choices, property tax, gov efficiency.

We do like our sales taxes. Almost 4K a year, But overall our tax burden is lower than the others. State Income tax rate hoses us

Didnt include local income tax averages?
Also, with these numbers you cant really compare to each other as they dont start with the same income

You have me confused, why would someone pay more federal income tax in Texas than say La?
You have some bad information there.

Because people make more taxable income in Texas. This is showing the total average tax burden.
While showing the tax burden at a set income is probably better for comparison, this really isn't that hard to figure out.

How much do the new tax laws, dumping the ability to deduct state and local tax from the federa itemized return, hurt most states vs the likes of TX, FL, TN?

Are the Federal Income taxes the average paid in each state, and Texans just make more so their # is higher? If that is the case, the $0 in state income taxes is more significant.
I can tell you for my wife and I who own interest in a few small business and have decent salaries, we pay about 10K in property taxes in TX for a nice place, but would pay almost $26K in state income taxes in LA. Good job on discouraging the high income earners from staying in LA with your tax structure.

Those numbers are useless without adjusting for income. A richer state is going to pay more than a poorer state, even with the same rates.

Need to remove federal taxes since it's not a state tax burden. Makes it a bit misleading

In states like LA where you don't have a ton of high income earners and state tax is relatively low, not much. I'd say maybe a couple hundred dollars. In states like California and New York, a shite tob

That's such a stupid way to look at it. First, federal taxes should be removed since those are the same across the country.
Second, they should show it at different income levels...ie $50k, 150k, 500k. That would be an apples to apples comparison.

Not really, it gives insight into both income and consumable spending through sales tax
