I bought my first house 20 years ago, and I know for a fact rates haven’t been over 6ish % in that time. I was encouraged to buy for several years prior to that, going back to the mid-90s, so I suspect rates were lower then as well. So probably highest rates in at least 25 years.

200-2001 they were over 7

My first mortgage was 6.8% in 2005 or 2006.

Hell I refinanced my first mortgage to get to 6.5 around the same time and the mortgage folks said “you are wise to do it now. They will never be this low again”

It hit that yesterday. Today it dropped a little and was at 6.378%

I saw this tik tok recently where they interview a guy who serves eviction/forclosure notices to people (up around Boston) said he’s the busiest he’s ever been

It might have been 6.4%. Hell, I can't remember exactly but it was definitely well over 6%. We didn't pay that rate for long because the economy tanked a few years later.

My parents bought their first home in 1978 too.

Mine was 6.5% back in 2004.....refinanced at 4.25 in 2009, then got a 15 year at 2.5% in 2013, so I'm counting the days to payoff:).

20 years ago that was a great rate. Free money can't last forever. You Millennials need some perspective.

And you Boomers are the sole reason for the terrible condition the country is in.
Boomers own this entire shite show. From the pedos, to the corrupt government, to the highest crime rates to the fake Democrat vs Republican BS and biggest racial divide since slavery. Remember that.

We put down 10% and kind of got lucky w a family friend as a mort broker. Ended up with an outfit at 6.275 who sold the contract and eventually we ended up w Wells Fargo by 2001. Pre 9/11.

We bought our first home in 1990. Owner cut us a deal and financed it for us. 10%. Bank rate was higher than that.

We bought another house 2 years ago and I believe it was 3.12.

No need to worry. The Biden administration is going to forgive all student loans. More free money for everyone.
