Mine does it during the summer too but it detects if the temperature in the cabin starts to rise so it's not off long. I've gotten in the habit of just disabling it the first time it does it.

It would certainly help if you told us the year make and model of your truck

There is a button on the dash that will turn it off.
This just turns it off until you stop the engine again. I think people are asking how to disable the feature completely.

On a 2017 f150, it disables if you have something plugged into the 110v behind the console (accidental discovery).
My starter made it 140-150k miles. Battery replaced around 120K
Not suggesting auto start/stop is good, and I do hate it, but it’s hard to be upset with those numbers. N=1, etc.

Is there anyway to turn this off completely? I know there's a button to turn it off but you have to do it everytime you get in truck
There is something you can do on some GM's that tricks the ECM into thinking that the car is in service mode. It's basically a little thing you can get on Amazon that plugs into the truck and prevents auto stop and cylinder deactivation from happening, and you can remove it before you take the truck in for service. But I think they've closed this loophole on newer models unfortunately.
For the most part you just have to remember to disable it when you start the car.
I agree that it's stupid. It's especially bad on horizontally opposed motors like the ones used by Subaru and Porsche because for all of their natural balance when running, those engine starts are just NOT smooth.
Somehow my 2021 4Runner does not have it. Glad it doesn't, because a larger displacement V6 like that isn't a smooth operator during startup.

I hate the start/stop govt-mandated, testosterone-sapping, tree-hugging, panty waist, milquoast, bullshite, technical overreach crap they've done to our cars and trucks...
Drove my '86 Chevy C20 Suburban with the original 454 to work this AM. It might get 10 mpg. Runs like a dream. It only started once on my commute.

I used the Carista tool to turn it off permanently.
Check if it is compatible with your vehicle.

Not bad. I'd make sure it's easy to remove in case the car ever needs to go in for service under warranty.
I think that hardware solution like what you posted a safer route that programing the truck - the dealer and warranty department will notice that.

Did you just wake up from a 5 year coma?
Posted on 11/27/24 at 8:47 am to Higgysmalls
My 2022 Jeep had that on it and one morning I got up and the shite wouldnt start so I jumped it off and went to AutoZone to have the battery checked.
The guy tells me its the auxiliary battery for the start/stop feature. I had no idea there was a hidden battery for that. The process was a pain in the arse for DIY so I traded that shite in.

I have a 2017 F150 too. My battery lasted about 50-55k miles. Granted, the truck was about 6 years old at that mileage

I found on my Tundra that, when stopped, I tend to not press the brake pedal hard enough to activate it.
Posted on 11/27/24 at 8:54 am to Higgysmalls
Glad I don't have that. Hell, I still have an actual Key. 2020 Tundra

Definitely not easy to install/uninstall, requires quite a bit of work. It plugs into the back of the button that turns it off and to get to the back of that button you have to remove a bunch of dash/console panels.

Does anyone else’s only do it during crisp weather?
Mine has started doing it for the season, but it’ll go all summer not.
Mine won't do it if temp is above or below a certain threshold. Not sure what that is, but dead of Summer it won't nor dead of Winter.

Mine didn’t work well and when it would cut back on there was a 10% chance it would kill altogether. Happened in dangerous situations like pulling out into traffic and whatever. I fricking hated it as it almost caused a couple of accidents. Bring it to the dealership and they never were able to diagnose the problem and wouldn’t (they said couldnt) disable it. frick em

My BMW (brag) has a coding program that you can purchase that used to disable the auto stop-start (arse) system. But BMW did an over the air software update that disabled the coding. So the coding program now allows the car to start by default in "Sport Individual" mode that can be configured to perform any way you want but doesn't activate the arse system. Your move, BMW.
It's a ridiculous cat and mouse game all so that the automakers can meet some stupid government regulation. If the government would make the regulations ignore the arse system, they would take them out of cars.

On my wife’s SUV, it only stops for like 30secs. I thought I was lifting my foot off the brake for a while. But now that I’ve paid attention, nope…30 secs. What’s the point?

Auto stop eliminator. Buy it online and have your mechanic or car guy install.
ITs a little more complicated than remove the dash plug and play. This thing won't void a warranty or mess anything up electrically.
I had GODSO Motors install mine.
