I smiled at him and turned the other cheek

financial incentive.

depending on the severity you can get a gov't check. People want that money.

If it's not particularly severe, or even if its just a language delay, you can get access to more services, therapy etc which can help the kid out, leading to the umbrella being spread further and more docs willing to hand out the diagnosis.

other than that, actual autism is probably caused by mirror neuron dysfunction, so genetic / environmental causes are ultimately to blame. But the diagnosis's umbrella has spread farther than it should have because there's money involved and because it gives free access to social services that can actually be very helpful.

Vaccinations that are required now that weren't required 50 years ago. Might be a link.

Why isn’t this studied further against control groups in different cultures?

Probably because those studies would find a correlation between vaccines taken and rate of autism occurrence.

A lot of adults doctor shop their kids for a diagnosis. I'm going to go out on a small limb and say the Amish probably don't.

The Amish try to avoid using modern medicine as much as possible and when they do decide to use a doctor they will charter a van to drive to a doctor that is "approved." The Amish that I worked with would send all the men in their family with hernias 300+ miles in a van so they could all be taken care of at the same time.

Quit eating dead food! American's live on dead food. Full of chemicals and preservatives. Quality meats, fruits and veggies grown local goes a long way .

Because the definition of autism went from one disorder to 5 disorders to now encompassing a good 150 disorders. Of course there are more now

Lawrenceburg/Three Oaks area? If so, those are Swartzentruber Amish....hardliners. The women can't/won't speak to you if you're male. They don't have phones at all, or any other modern conveniences. They are the most conservative sect of Amish.

If you ever need a high quality, top notch portable building check with Abe Miller by way of the USPS or a visit toward the end of Three Oaks Road. His buildings are better quality, he uses better materials, and they're a good deal cheaper than anything on the market. There's a wait list with some amount of good faith money ("Whatever you feel is good." he will say). He builds poplar board and batten or metal sided buildings. Hit up Todd Yaneyahn (spelling is dickered, I'm sure) down the way at Powder Mill Hill antiques to move/set the building. I'm not sure if he's still doing it, though, it has been a few years.

Try to visit Abe around lunchtime. Otherwise, you probably won't catch him home.

It's mostly due to expanding the definition of ASD.

So, how much is a disability check for autism?

There isn’t a simple answer to this question because every child and their parents will be treated as an individual case, and this will impact how much they receive each month.

Currently, the full benefit amount is $841 a month. However, the SSA will then apply a formula to work out how much to deduct from this once the parents’ income has been considered.

It appears to me that "crazy checks" has evolved to become autistic checks. LINK

I have a son who is diagnosed with Autism. My take on it is that vaccines play no role in it at all and people are simply diagnosed more these days. I dont believe that more people have autism it is just diagnosed more so the rate goes up. I know plenty people that are autistic but back when they were younger they were just labelled as weird or odd instead of going to a doctor.

So far the comments in this thread proves no one knows the answer.

I actually wish someone did, because I have a wife (no pics) who doesn’t want to give our infant all those vaccines. I think it’s like 70ish now.
I’ve read a few books from both sides, so I’m torn. I think it’s entirely too many and we have mutually eliminated a few that he definitely will not get.

I really hate this world, the time we live in and the amount of shite we have to worry about with raising a child. I didn’t want to have kids in this climate, I was set on more dogs, but things happen and now he’s the greatest gift of our lives.

I’m sure I’m not the only one.

several but not "150"...but if you give a child a CARS.... at the least they will have "minimum symptoms of Autism"...

Maybe Amish people are just getting tested for it more often now than they were in 2005. Seems like the most logical reason.
