Anyone live or lived in Augusta? Opinions? I currently live in BR, so just about anything is an upgrade at this point.
Thanks
Thanks

Nicest part of the city is not open to the public

That town is a dump.

I've been driving through it for years en rt from atlanta to Columbia, sc area. I used to call it Disgusta, but it actually has a lot to offer.
I would rather live there than Atlanta, but it has never been on my list.
The buzz was that the Army Cyber Security Command Center (I may be making up the name) was supposed to make it a mini tech hub.
The river is nice and it's close to cool places. But not convenient to any major airport. Eta: the regional airport does have some decent flights. Never looked at it closely though.

“Augusta Georgia is just no place to be”

It's a total dump that may or may not still have a large contingent of gypsies.
There are a frickton of nice places to live in GA, certainly nicer/safter than baton rouge, but I have no idea why you'd pick Augusta. It's not like you'd be allowed to hit ANGC every weekend.

Lived there for a couple of years while working at the nuke plant.
Grovetown/Evans was the better side of town then. I lived on the west side of 520 in that area while I was there. Lots of gypsies, the real one’s, across the river in North Augusta. Downtown wasn’t bad and was on the up and up with bars and restaurants. The two weeks of the Masters is nuts.
Definitely didn’t have a shooting everyday like in BR but the locals did get wild every now and then.

Just talking to a friend yesterday. She has lived in Augusta for 2 years and can't wait to move away.

People throw around the term "dump" way too often in these conversations.
Augusta isn't a "dump". It just won't blow you away.

Augusta is a downgrade from Baton Rouge. That’s saying something.

Wrong. It's a dump, inches away from shithole status. Downtown is atrocious, it's boring, the best lodging is crap interstate hotels and it's a culinary wasteland. During Masters week it's a hoot obviously but other than that it's the definition of a "dump".

Augusta mostly sucks. They just happen to have an amazing private course that you can’t play.

Lived in Evans, just outside of Augusta in Columbia County, for 11 years. Worked in Augusta and commuted.
I'd echo the other sentiments here. Augusta is meh at best. Columbia County is good for families. If you are single, night life doesn't really exist too much downtown, compared to other similar sized cities. It was tough for me to hire single engineers based on the city and what it had to offer.
