ATV driver booked after crash kills wife

A Bourg man is charged with vehicular homicide after the ATV he was driving crashed and threw him and his wife off, killing her, State Police said.

Police said they suspect the driver had been drinking, and results of an alcohol blood test are pending.

Zora White, 39, was killed in the crash, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. Saturday in Chauvin, Troop C said.

Her 34-year-old husband, Daniel White III, was treated for what police said were minor injuries then booked into the Terrebonne Parish jail, where he awaited a bond hearing.

Daniel White was driving a 1998 Honda TRX on Pump Station Road near Clinton Street, when he struck a steel gate crossing the restricted access road, police said. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

Homicide seems a bit severe on this.If he had been drinking, she knew about it,and she still chose to ride with him, without a helmet.

These cases always confused me. As if him killing his wife wasn't punishment enough.

He should be charged with a DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Yup. Happens with kids too. I'd guess a lot of the time, the "killer" regresses socially and kills themselves. I'd probably do it

Grand jury will reject charge at DA's request, probably.

No they're not. Those tests take <1 hour to return.

Not sure he should be charged for this. Tough call.

Man,considering the number of ATVs in this country, the number of accidents seems pretty low to me.

Every one that I know owns one,and I don't know a single person ever seriously hurt on one.

I know a couple of kids that had arms broken,or things like that, but that also happens climbing trees and riding bicycles.

Lets see we've got:
1. ATV
2. Alcohol
3. After midnight
4. No helmets

He should be charged with the maximum penalty allowed, whatever the charge is when you kill someone drunk driving a car.
Sure she shouldn't have been riding with him and without a helmet, but fault lies with the driver and there's a price more than just grief to pay.

Ok. Something is fishy about the gate. Did it just get put up or were the atv riders just unfamiliar with the road. This is not making ense.

Why?
Fault always should lie with the driver.
And just because he's sad about it, he should have to serve no sentence?
If my sister were killed by her husband's unlawfulness, I would want him to pay a price.

If this man was drunk, I think his wife was as well.
They were on an ATV at 12:30 am,they were joy riding.
She wasn't wearing a helmet, she had a bit of responsibility in what happened to herself.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any punishment, but homicide seems severe. I am sure he didn't wreck on purpose.

The excuses made in this thread for the guy are a perfect representation of why the DUI problem in Louisiana is so bad.

Throw the SOB under the jail.
