So, in 2017 we hired an attorney to help review documents related to my wife's purchase of a business and building lease. The building owner is making some requests/demands and we would like the attorney's help in responding. I keep calling the firm and they assure me someone will call. Not heard a thing. Is this SOP for attys? I get the impression they want us to go elsewhere. Just seems it would be easier to stay with them as I assume they still have the docs in house.

He just doesn’t want to deal with the shitty lease he told you you could sign.

What state are we talking about here?

They’re busy consuming billable hours to figure out how to bill you more hours.

Not calling back clients is the #1 thing that attorneys get roasted for, even up to disciplinary complaints.

The first thing we do is, let’s kill all the lawyers.

If the atty will not even call you back when you are coming to him with an opportunity for new business, do you think they are going to be responsive when there is actual work required? If it were me, I'd find another attorney and have them request the file from the old attorney, if they even need it - chances are the entire dispute with the landlord will come down to what the lease says and that will be the only doc that really matters.

he did his job and so he is not interested in being your personal on call lawyer for any issues you have.

this is now a separate matter, and most likely requires a different specialty of lawyer to handle. or they may just see no profit in it for them.

to not work for free on things they havent agreed to be part of, yes it is SOP

I have people who call my office who I don't want to schedule for a consult with, who never get a call back....who will then call back and demand they talk to the attorney because they're an "Existing client"

Yeah, that's pretty hilarious that you do the absolute minimum necessary to not get debarred. Real knee-slapper there.

IYAM law schools would be serving their students well by requiring a course or two in basic business management and time management along with some kind of Dale Carnegie-like offering. A lot of attorneys have no fricking clue about either business skills or people skills. It's a wonder more of them don't get taken to the cleaners by the underpaid, undersupervised office staff they trust to handle things like banking and bill paying.

We send form reject letters in situations like this. Be careful, baw. Whether an attorney-client relationship exists can be determined by the subjective belief of the client. Our letter nips that shite in the bud.
