I would think that they wanted to break into the masters coverage just as much as you wanted to see them do it

it interrupts hundreds of thousands of viewers to warn a small group of people of bad weather. It should be direct, or to your phone, etc. and they shouldn't be able to ramble on attention whoring for 20 minute intervals.

complain to the FCC... that's a government rule
yelling at the news station won't do you any good... the station isn't going to put its broadcast license on the line just so you can watch some dudes whack a little ball around

I can guarantee you they didn't... b/c they know idiots are going to call in bitching that the severe/life threatening weather coverage - that the station is REQUIRED TO DO BY GOVERNMENT REGULATION - is stopping them from watching some golf tournament
