Agreed. His loss can't be used for political gain.

I'm going to donate to that cause listed.

Actually saw something like this in Perdido Key back in 2018. Guy went out to help some kid who was struggling with the riptide and ended up drowning. It was our first day at the beach for our trip and I'll never forget the horrific scream of the man's wife when they pulled his body to shore. Water and electricity are two things I'm not the biggest fan of.

These stories always terrify me. I always try to have some kind of flotation device with us when we go to the beach. If you are gonna go help, scoop up a boogie board or something on your way out.

No. An undertow refers to current running opposite of the surface flow.

Did you read the next sentence in my post:
quote:

So as waves are forming on top of the water, the water underneath is sucking back outward to compensate, and can suck you under.

So even taking your definition, does that not suck you under the water? It sure as hell does based on this diagram:

Jesus. What an awful story. This country could use a million of him.

Lost one of my students in Gulf Shores last year. Such a gut punch.

So sad. These currents can happen quickly and cause panic.

I hate hearing this. So sad for the family.

This goes to show it isn’t a black problem in this country it’s a culture problem. If more young black men were raised the way this man was we would be a lot better off

All four children who were initially caught in the undercurrent survived, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

No. I have been in many of them and just swam or floated on out with the flow. Just felt being pushed along, no sucking down feeling.

IMO and experience that drawing is not completely accurate. When the breach occurs and the water starts to go out the seas kind of go flat right there in the breach.

Yes.

The key to surviving on of these events is to not panic.

That only comes with knowledge, experience and ability. It started with kids younger than 16 from Atlanta with probably not of water experience. Especially beach situations. A tragedy.

Bryce is an actual hero.

Not the ones we call “hero” every day.

Do not pass go, go directly to heaven.

Can’t imagine their grief right now but whoever raised that child did it right and should be proud of who he was.

You absolutely positively have to swim sideways.

Problem is with panicked children flailing around your task isn’t an easy one especially without a float of some kind.

No child should be in the water unsupervised or without a float in the gulf. This happens way too much.
