Gays represent 3% of the American population.
8.4% of married couples in America are mixed race black/white.
Someone from another country that was ignorant of American demographics would assume it was the majority of America in both cases if they based it on what they would see in TV commercials.

On the other hand, Dish TV just had a white heterosexual couple as customers with a white male salesman.
