Two years ago... but it was about the schools and crime much more than the weather.

My wife is pushing for us to leave. And for the first time in my life, I’ve considered it.

My problem is the field that I’m in is pretty tied into where we live. I don’t know what I would do for work because I definitely would not be getting paid what I am now anywhere we would like to go. It’s a huge leap of faith, for sure. It’s crossed my mind more than it ever has any time before in my life.

If another major hurricane hits at some point, I’m afraid that’s what’s going to push me over the edge.

Please leave if this is how you feel, it will help with traffic for the people who actually love the state.

Yeah.

And am not interested in moving to Houston Or Mississippi. If we move, it’d be away from the Gulf Coast. She has family in Colorado.

Don’t move because you want to get away from weather. Almost every location has its weather challenges. If you want to get away from the gulf coast for hurricanes, completely understand though.

There are random states with major petro fields. California has a lot, for example.

Weather is the straw that broke the camel's back

There aren't many positives to staying in LA at the moment and the future is bleaker than the present. Shitty weather is a cherry on top.

When productive working citizens flee to other states, the results are devastating for LA.

We do not have a traffic problem due to population, we have an inferior government and DOTD that has poorly planned for nearly a century. Lack of vision with major metro area lack of lanes, HOV lanes, city loop, etc. are very basic examples of neglect.

Yes.

Sadly, one of the best reasons for staying here now might simply be that it will be safer to be where you're from when the world falls completely apart.

For a man only looking out for himself, I can't see any reason for staying in Louisiana.

Car culture is cringe af.

Shitty post war boom city planning is the problem.

Ban single family zoning. Make city walkable with a mix of residential, office, restaurants, groceries, etc. the only zoning is industrial, put that shite outside the city.

frick blocks of homes and all that nonsense.

Zoning is the problem with the US.

We have this stuff in America called land. Even in your ideal vision, you'd still need "car culture" to connect cities that are now the distance of 3 European countries apart

Euro-style planning will only work in the most congested areas, aka, the NE Megolopolis. It makes no sense anywhere else.

frick blocks of homes and all that nonsense.

This makes no sense. Even in Europe, they have this and this is preferred (if you can afford it). You're not getting rid of homes and neighborhoods, especially in a country 3000 miles across and 2000 miles high.

*ETA: and what does this have to do with LA? we are losing population and still have plenty of land to build new housing

Oh I 100% agree and until people start voting the right way nothing is ever going to change.

Jake I’ll get you on our shitty city planning in a bit.

I have some YouTube talks that explain it.

I’ll link when I get to the office in a bit.

Voting has little to do with it.

Plus, voting mirrors culture. LA voting just shows the depravity in their nanny state loving culture.

shite, our most popular 2 leaders were Huey Long and Edwin Edwards. Two very crooked, populist lefties. shite has gotten worse since the GOP took over.

I think I've seen it, actually, but it's still only palatable in MEGA urban areas.

Efficient city planning is only needed in areas that have to efficiently manage lack of land. If you have plenty of space to use, it's not necessary. America has an incredible amount of suitable land, with major urban areas scattered all around that huge area. We've developed distinct cultures for proximities to those urban areas, that is actually our biggest current political divide.

Everywhere has weather issues. Anywhere along the coast in the south east will have hurricanes. Midwest and great plains has tornados and frequent hail. Up north has blizzards and snow and ice to deal with for months. Out west, you have drought and wildfires. Pick your poison
