Damn, I never thought of asking my divorce lawyer for some of that scratch back.

A human being is an animal born to live in the wild, hunt, kill, survive.

Society has removed all that is natural and some can’t handle it.

Same here. I cut grass on the side for some extra cash and last summer I had some dude stop by me while unloading trailer and asked for 20 dollars. I told him to grab the lawnmower and go cut the two lawns I was about to do and he walked off. Freeloading bastard.

Visit any major city and travel around on foot for 2 minutes.

I was eating at a place in L.A. in 2014 that had sidewalk seating, and saw an obviously homeless woman going table to table shoving her upturned palm out. She got to my table and I said no and was blasted with profanity until management shooed her away.

They’re bold, not ashamed.

Normal healthy adults posting on social media asking for money is so weird to me. I have secondhand embarrassment just reading the posts.

I think it underscores how warped some Americans sense of reality is about where money comes from. You hand out enough free money and people assume they deserve it.

There was an intern at my office who put a collection jar with venmo & cash app QR codes on the table in the breakroom asking for donations for their "graduation trip."

This.

Nothing more pathetic and embarrassing than seeing a woman bachelorette party with a Venmo asking to buy the bride a drink.

No I'm not giving you money you trashy loser.

Boomers are all millionaires and the younger generations are all broke or in debt. The government tried to help out millenials by printing more money back during Covid but the boomers all complained about it. There’s just not enough money to go around anymore

I noticed a car this past summer while I was on vacation with shoe polish that said, "21st birthday at the beach @Steph-Smith4"

I dropped a $20 and left my room number in the comments.

Just kidding. I told my son to do it.

he took the twenty, looked at the gas cans and said, "wait a minute, is this going to be enough to fill them all up?". I was a little taken aback and replied, " it'll be enough to get you started".

Then she just turned away and walked into the store without a thank you, frick you or nothing.

I've had this happen to me twice where I would try and be nice and give them money only for them to either ask if I could give them more or take the money and walk away without a thank you. I'm done with street beggars. And don't get me started on these damn gypsies on the street corners with their aggressive begging tactics

I don't think it is, there are just no consequences for doing it so it continues.

As a recovering mega church parishioner, i saw this several times where folks would ask for scratch for mission trips.

Don't get me started on parents wanting handouts for their kids to go to some type of travel ball tourney.

There are beggars in the Bible so I'd say it's been goin on for a while

I would imagine anyone that happened to live to “old age” or was disabled in those days was a beggar because there weren’t many social programs. Nowadays there are a lot more able-bodied folks begging.

That was the first American period that popped into mind in terms of sheer number. Though the industrial revolution period in the late 19th century would have had soaring numbers as well.

Sure the Middle Ages in Europe would would be the standard for the Western world.
