At what age would you put your kid in an Uber for a 15 min trip?

Let's say it's 8 on a Friday night and I've had a drink. And my 14yo daughter comes down and says she wants to spend the night at a friend's house.

1) drive her after one drink

2) ask the friend's Mom to come get her (assuming the Mom has had at least two glasses of wine)

3) call Uber and have her sent off express service to the girl's door, then mix another drink...

I have conflicting emotions. What does the OT say?

I'd drive her after one drink, because I'm well under the legal limit

I'm definitely not putting my 14 yo daughter in the car with a strange dude at night

WTF is wrong with you

Ride with her in the uber then have the uber take you back. How many miles is the trip? You don't get charged much per minute.

if you're way too hammered, you could always just ride with her in the uber

After one drink I'd take her. After 4-5 I'd ride with her and take the Uber back home.

OP sounds like an awesome responsible parent. God forbid you inconvenience yourself and watch out for your teenage daughter.

14 seems OK to me.

I'm not doing it on account of one drink though, unless that one drink is a big one.

I have an Uber driver who is actually a retired husband/wife team. Sometimes you get her, sometimes you get him. They were both school administrators and they drive Uber on the side to keep busy. Seem like a nice couple. But I guess you never know.

If I've had less than 4 drinks, I'll drive her.

No uber at 14. Unless she has a pistol in her purse.

I don't want some jihadist driving my kid around in a shitty Camry and then giving him 3 stars for not tipping enough.

I actually hadn't thought of this. Pretty good idea.

Yea, you can tell in this thread who hasn't used Uber I've only had one bad driver out of the hundreds of rides I've taken.

ETA: Like this guy

1 drink isn't doing anything to the average man... unless your idea of a drink is a pint of vodka, neat.

So that's my vote... I can pour myself round 2 when I get home.

I’ve actually looked at this more for some days where there is a conflict dropping my kids off at school in the morning. Uber won’t let minors ride unaccompanied according to their rules. Now how strictly that is enforced if you order one, I don’t know.

The best idea is to just ride there and ride back but Uber is way way more safe than a cab. You know who the driver is, car, lic plate, you also can track the car the whole way to the destination.

Drive her. Wouldn't matter if I had one drink or a dozen drinks
