And? Uber does a background check, and I can track the vehicle the entire time. I'd rather that over a cab or other forms of public transportation. You can also cancel the ride if you don't like the driver that accepted it, so I can't think of a single reason to be uncomfortable with it. If you'd let you kid take a bus, I see no reason you'd be uncomfortable with them in an Uber.

i've been taking cabs in nyc, chicago, stl, everywhere since a well-adjusted, young age.********
i think it depends on your daughters maturity and her access to help if something goes wrong.

This is kind of where I am.

First, my daughter has a phone. So she can text me or call me if anything is amiss. I can even stay on the phone with her the whole time.

Plus, I can follow the route on my phone and make sure it doesn't stop or go off route.

I think it is an order of magnitude safer than a bus or the subway. In NYC, responsible parents send their kids on public transportation all the time.

I think Uber is way safer than that.

If she's fourteen then she's old enough to have a pistol in her purse. She'll be fine as long as you raised her right.

Well on a bus they aren't alone with a stranger. A driver doesn't have to rape her to have a negative interaction. He could offer to buy beer for her and her friend, offer drugs, try to exchange numbers to hook up later. Are these the most likely outcome, no, it will probably go smoothly, but there are definitely reasons to be uncomfortable.

Those have nothing to do with Uber. If you're worried about that kind of stuff, you're worried about it everywhere they go and with any random person they interact with.
