Got pregnant in a trip to Venice with my wife on the pill at 45, kid is fixing to start kindergarten, our other 2 kids are in College. Wife did go into preeclampsia and we had to have a C-section at 32 weeks with the last one. She is a joy, but 45 is just pushing it IMO...I’ll qualify for Medicare when she’s 20, lol....

Women can get pregnant and safely carry until age 45 to 48 depending...

Menopause does not begin until around age 50

The chances of birth defects go way up after the early 30s.

40 is the beginning of the end for many women, with 48 being pretty much the end for most.

IMO, waiting to have kids until your 40’s is a bad idea. You’re kids will be in high school while you’re in your 60’s.

Forget about spending time with grandkids.

Start your family no later than your early 30’s.

Fertility clinics do not buy eggs from women older than 25.

Is it the egg or the fact that their body can't handle pregnancy the same as a younger woman?

Say a woman has fertile eggs, buy the couple has to use a surrogate for whatever reason. They don't do it until mid 30s.

Same outcome?

It’s the egg quality more than the body’s ability to support pregnancy. Mid 30s isn’t as likely to have devastating egg quality issues as closer to 40, but it starts dropping pretty quickly.

Sperm quality is reduced the older a man gets, as well. It takes a 45 year old man an average of 5x longer to get a 25 year old woman pregnant than it takes a man under 25. It takes a 25 year old man something like an average of 4.5 months to get a 25 y/o woman pregnant. It takes a 45 year old man an average of 2 years. And she’s twice as likely to miscarry with the 45 year old father.

Basically, if you want kids, you’ve got much better chances if you do it young.

Is this a lost cause?

Not at all. I'm 40 and my wife is 38 and we're expecting our first together in September.

If you wait until you're 33-35, she'll be about the same age as my wife.

Don't know- but if they have no intention of raising/watching them, don't keep having them.

Nothing against the OP, but a 30yo woman that's dating a 25yo guy is a bit of a red flag to me... considering typical maturity gaps between men/women AND the huge maturity gap between age 25 and age 30.

Gets tougher and more risky with age. Could make it stressful if you’re trying for years in your late 30s as the odds get worse. Not a good “base plan” if you ask me.
