16 when i got my car - my dad believed in the idea of earning and paying for it myself - i even bought my own car
I couldn't imagine making a 16 year old pay for their own car insurance with today's rates

I would pay my parents during the summer months in high school when I could work. I played sports so working during the school year was impossible. So as long as I played sports my parents covered. Took full responsibility when I was in college and working more. My parents covered my books in college since I was on TOPS.

Once I sold the truck my parents bought me I paid my own truck note and everything. (Last semester of college)

Well they aren’t adults until 26 now.

Unbelievable.

Paid my own insurance when I was 16, and then when I was 18, got my own separate policy.

I still pay for an 18 year old. Don’t see it happening anytime soon. I am good with it for now.

19 when I bought my first truck. 1991 brand new Ford Ranger. Payments were $160, and insurance was like $60 or $70 a month.

Agree with this. I can’t imagine a part time job even paying for this in today’s rates.

I started paying as soon as I started driving bc we were poor as hell coming up.

I cover my kids as long as they keep an A average and are in still in school. Either thing changes and they have to pay. It’s been a great motivator for them.

The real question is will kids ever get off of the family cell phone plan? As for as I can tell it will never happen.

My kids pay for their car insurance and gas. We pay for their first car and it’s intended to get them through college.
