I was director of a research center at the University of Cambridge for 8 years (funded well). Retired at 40, but occasionally do educational consultancy on the side.
Wow good for you. That's a nice accomplishment.
I'm 54 and I plan on working until i'm 62. I have 23 years with the company i'm with now so I have 8 more years to go. I have a pension, 401K and will likely start drawing SS at 62 even thought it will be reduced. My age group isn't eligible for full SS until age 67. At 62 i'll have 43 years in the plants. That's enough.

Probably the age listed on my death certificate, minus one day

Plan on 58. Two years away. Company pension and a nice 401K. The only way to go IMO. I will take SS when I get 62 if I can.

I think I’m going to work until I drop dead, from there I’ll have to remote in from hell for the rest of eternity.

Don’t know what that means.

66. Industrial automation sales. Feel pretty fortunate after giving my ex-wife half of everything in 1990.

If you have left your job, you can make withdrawals from s 401k at age 55 without penalty.
“Internal Revenue Code that allows you to start taking distributions from your 401(k) plan before you reach age 59½? §72(t)(2)(A)(v), The primary requirement is that you separate from service with the employer at or after age 55.”

Well I guess it will still be 59 and 1/2 for me bc I don’t think I can go another 4 years

Thanks for the info though bc I was not aware of that . They never told me

I enjoy my job and will retire the day it’s no longer enjoyable, or I can’t perform it up to my own expectations.

71 now, retired from full time at 58, I do consulting now, love it, work about 10 hours a week when I want to. We planned well, scrimped when we were young, now we can splurge and have trust funds for all the grandchildren.
The secret is that when you're kicking arse, getting raises and bonuses, don't spend it, save it, pay off your house, get rid of debt.

I plan on retiring at 70.
My parents gave me a private school education and then cut me loose at 18 after high school.
I cant afford private school for 4 kids. And i dont want to pay for their college. So my plan is to help them fund self employment when they are 25-35 years old. In the end, this will cost me more than in state tuition, but i think it will set them up better than just paying for college (which i can afford but am choosing not to). You get ahead in this life by owning things (owning your own labor being the best asset).
The plan right now is to have $3M retirement saved at 60. But a lot of that is earmarked to secure capital.
I dont mind working (currently insurance sales). And if it will help my future grandkids? No brainer.

unless you can prevent them from applying for financial aid the "state" will demand your tax return and will drag money out of you every month. they will say what you have to kick in.
check it out.
