In space what is the point of reference for velocity?

I think the main reason is to make sure they don't crash into the Earth or fly off into space.

I don’t care at all about this topic one way or another, but I do feel like you went 0 -17,500 douche units in no time, my man.

Relax. If someone is wrong, say that and then correct them. Don’t just say people are SO dumb and then not explain how they are “dumb.”

It makes you look like the dumb one.

So you believe that the forces on an object in a weightless environment (or in “space”) act differently than the forces on an object otherwise. Is that what I’m reading? If so you failed physics. Sadly most people believe an object orbiting the earth is actually massless somehow.

I took (and passed) many Physics classes including an Aeronautical Engineering class (many years ago but my favorite class at LSU) but I’m 100% sure i am correct. There are still forces acting on objects in space hence why many satellites have to correct their orbit, but they are minuscule . Do you think astronauts on a space walk are fighting 17k mph “wind resistance” comparable to earth? Yes there are different forces acting on an object at 17k mph in space than the same speed on earth.

This video was posted yesterday. It's breathtaking how fast a low Earth orbit is. We are accustomed to getting stills from space. Video make it so much more fascinating,

I was just wondering if there is an answer since I don't remember hearing one.

The answer wouldn't matter because relative velocity with everything in the neighborhood does, but I figured an egghead had thought about it.

i wonder how many MPH a floating astronaut speeds up every time they fart?

the avg fart exits the body at 6.8MPH, is it amplified with zero gravity?

I had a bubble fart in the car travel up my crack and nut tag me once. i STG it was going at least 10 MPH

Yeah, these idiots can’t grasp that the earth is a flat disk with a giant crystalline dome on top to separate the waters above the firmament from the waters below. There is no “outer space”.

So you're telling me a giant chicken laid the planets?

How fast was the chicken going when it laid the planets?

10k mph? It had to be going slower than the astronauts.

These are the same people applying gravitational reactions to space.

physics that are planet bound are not the same as space bound.

The gravitational pull has been reduced, thus there is no resistance.

Please explain in further detail what the frick you think goes on in space.

This could not be more wrong. It’s amusing how people think that just because an object leaves the earths atmosphere physics is totally different or doesn’t exist at all.

You can build any kind of strawman argument against my assertion that makes you feel intelligent but bottom line is the forces acting on an object orbiting the Earth are NOT minuscule. They may be balanced but they are not minuscule. What happened to that physics education? Been a while?
