Asphalt truck on I-110 this morning

An asphalt truck dumped a bunch of rocks on I-110 south this morning and my windshield got wrecked. Wondering if anyone caught the company so I can reach out for a new windshield?

ACME Trucking Company. Specializing in asphalt road transportation.

Were you at least 500 feet behind it?

Got windshield coverage on insurance? Low deductible? Call SafeLite. I only had to pay $50.00 for my $800.00 windshield replacement when my windshield blew up on I 12 last year.

Bad news. They wrote the law in LA such that if the debris touches the roadway it becomes a “road hazard” and the truck company isn’t liable.
fricking insane. It has to fly off the truck and hit your car before the roadway for them to bear liability.

By the time I was there, the truck had dumped half its load on the road/interstate and was pulled off to the side. I'm sure plenty of people got their windshield wrecked. Figured someone might know something since so many people drove through the mess.

shite bouncing from uncovered trucks on I-110 have chipped or cracked at least four windshields of mine in the last eight years of bringing my daughter to school at LSU Lab. I cannot believe we still don't require the goddamn dump trucks to cover and make sure their loads are secure

He had time to dump half of his load, pull off to the side, and stop. But you did not have time to avoid the debris in the road, take note of the cracked windshield, and pull over yourself to get the information from the driver?

I dont think you understand. When I arrived at the situation on 110, the 300 lbs of rocks were already all over the interstate with people driving over it. There was no prior indication that traffic was from debris on the road. (how shocking i know). I was too busy trying to get out of the lane with majority of the rocks and not wreck in the process when one of the rocks flung up and hit my windshield.
The truck was not pulled over right next to the incident. It was pulled over a little ways down on one of the exits. So no i didn't think to stop my car at 70 mph to go confront this unknown driver in the middle of North Baton Rouge.
If you have any other questions, id be happy to explain some more.

Maybe we should start shaming the companies online

You'll have better luck getting a windshield in this particular situation. Hopefully you can find out the company. Still will be on you to provide evidence that you were affected by that situation. I'm sure some sort of police report was filed, you may have luck trying that way as well.
Don't get your hopes up on getting anything though. You'll spend more chasing it than the cost of the windshield if the company tells you to pound sand.

why can't you just keep 398,927 feet back at all times?

I’m with you man! That’s got to be infuriating!

These fricking a-hole dump trucks drive with damaged or missing tarps and shitty mudflaps. When I see a dump truck, I stay way the frick back from it.

You won’t get anything from the company.

You aren't getting a new windshield from the trucking company even if you figure out who it is......
