I guess you haven't heard of Chicago, Cleveland, Memphis, Detroit, etc.

You don't have to refer to your husband as your "wife" on here.

I would not go in the summer. It's pretty shitty. Way too hot.

Really wanting to experience it and not do the Mardis gras stuff. Pick a day of jazz fest, do your weekend around that. Go see someone you actually want to see and do the other touristy stuff the other days.

You think that's just a New Orleans saying? You don't get out of north Louisiana much, do you?

A cool clear spring weekday morning stroll through the French Quarter from Canal through Jackson Square to the Marigny and back will change your entire perception. Quiet and serene conditions let you slow down and appreciate the mystique, history, and architecture you would never feel on a crazy bachelor party, Mardi Gras, or boozy weekend.
Tip a street musician and sit nearby for a few minutes and soak it in.
You will legitimately feel something transcendent and peaceful inside. Then you can snap out of it and grab a go-drink.

For all you N.O.haters, good, stay away. That just leaves more room for us locals to walk through The Quarter, enjoy Frenchmen Street's music, the Lake Front for good, local seafood, etc etc I've been going to The Quarter for over 30 yrs and have never had a problem, with guns, thugs even drunk rednecks. Like any major city, there are places and times when it is wise not go to. Common sense has always worked for me. So, yea, stay far away and never come down. For my La. Tech friend, tell me where anywhere in north La. you can grab a muffalotta, a cold beer or Hurricane, walk over to the levee and sit and enjoy the scenery and peace and quite. For about $20.

It’s a shame that so many of our in state baws know nothing about Nola other than the dome and Bourbon St.
And know even less about what a good restaurant or bar really is. LOL

Some of our good friends there are still alive, many have died and the stress of Katrina didn't help at all.
