Wat?
We are fundamentally different from the UK in almost everything but language.

Well we have quite a bit more citizens than the UK, so taking those numbers at face value is misleading

Iceland has had one fatal police shooting in the last 71 years.
Iceland is so similar to the culture of the United States. Their issues are so similar to ours so it's a great comparison.

The irony of you following up the first part of this sentence with the second part was not lost on me. Bravo.
And you absolutely have to consider if these killings were justified to decide if these numbers mean anything.

No , it's not. The guy sitting home questioning why the QB called an audible does not pay the quarterback's salary.

I've never seen you address black on black violence nor black on white violence for that matter. And I doubt Darth would have given two shits about cop shootings had bikers not been involved in the Texas fiasco. But yet here you both are addressing it. BTW Tang, why don't you address black on black violence?
You've never seen it because you don't work with me. You would probably say you've never seen black leaders address it, even though it though it is addressed every day.
I do - every day I go to work.

I don't give a shite about all that.
Show me the numbers where the cops are shooting innocent people.
Then get the hell out of the thread and stop looking for a argument where there's not one to be had. This thread is nothing more than information. I saw a story about the total number of people killed by police in 2015 and the number amazed me. Nothing more, nothing less.

I simply asked a question. The numbers don't mean jack shite if the the killings were justified. That just means the cops are killing the bad guys. Which IMO is a good thing.

It's something to think about that you are advocating capital punishment for minor crimes (without lawful trial). Do you realize this is what you are supporting? Or are you just one of those people who think we should go back to courthouse lawn hangings for crimes like theft?

The fact that the proportion of killings is vastly higher than many other developed countries is enough for a reasonable person you conclude that something is wrong with the culture and system. There are 3 possible factors to explain these numbers. Gun laws in the United States compared to other countries, police policy in the US, or the people in the US are just that much worse than other countries. Take your pick of what you want to beleive.

quote:Besides the fact that their culture and ours are completely different, and besides the fact that you should take a look at justified killings in the U.S. to judge whether or not we have a serious problem....to even compare based on total number is silly. The population of the UK is slightly lower than Texas and California combined. That's 2 out of 50 states. The UK is the size of one of our average states in square miles. To compare by number of killings when our population varies that much doesn't make much sense, does it?
in the last 24 years there have been 55 fatal police shootings in England and Wale

Cops enjoy killing people, that's been well known for a while now. It's a byproduct of placing mostly uneducated men with chips on their shoulders into positions of almost absolute power over others.

Minor crimes? Most of the time when cops shoot in self defense it's because they are being attacked by a perp, regardless of the crime committed prior to attacking the police officer. Anytime a perp of whatever base level crime (nonetheless crime) assaults and has potentially grave results to an officer deadly forced is justified.
Police officers should not be placed in defensive scenarios where they are at the disadvantage. If it's even remotely questionable I support police exercising deadly force and living as opposed to being defensive and getting killed.
Most of you on this message board have never been placed in a situation where you had the authority of being judge, jury, and executioner when your life or someone else's life is on the line. That is why you arm chair quarterback and second guess every move police officers conduct.

Adjusting for population, that is still a lot more police killings in the United States.

That explains the people shot while running away or unarmed or running away and unarmed.

I'm not familiar with the instance in which you are referencing. Please give me a link so I can review it.

My upbringing taught me to listen to cops and not be belligerent for the hell of it. And common sense. So I think I'm in the clear
