Answering some of the open questions posed in this thread. I don't work for Chase:

-Their hybrid schedule article quoted doesn't detail that Chase shrunk their office footprint since COVID. Closing and consolidating office space post-COVID while having mostly similar staff numbers means desk competition. There are enough desks overall but people may have to sit with other teams, or even different buildings, thus losing a major part of in-office collaboration opportunities. Some members are in-office and on online meetings with people in a different office.

-Their hybrid schedule worked before because teams in large centers alternated when they would come into the office. Example: some teams came Monday & Thursday. Others may have been Tuesday & Friday.

All said, if staff isn't wanting to make it work they will find reasons why it cannot.

I support a business’ right to mandate rto but it’s pretty bad if there truly aren’t enough desks because they downsized

And then ALSO on days when I have a medical appointment or a worker coming to the house or whatever, as I am seamlessly integrating that into a solid WFH day where I avoided the worst commute day of the week, I think "How could we have gone so many years without doing it this way?".

It's kinda funny thinking about how I used to work for companies that required paperwork and PTO for a freakin end-of-day doctor's appointment.

Our person in charge of HR-type tasks (we don't have actual HR) would be absolutely miserable if they had to deal with that much paperwork. It's easier to just staff good folks and let them manage their workday as they see fit.

We have mostly been very lucky with the people we hire.

God, I miss the days of simple phone calls. Whyyyyyy have we normalized being on video with every single person we take a call with?

I can stay better focused on what’s being said when it’s audio only for one on one or group calls, and if something visual is needed then just add the ability to share desktop screens to everyone else on call.

Holy shite, the HORRRRROR!!!!

I support private companies doing whatever they want in regards to WFH and letting the free market sort out winners and losers, but man the melt from WFH people being told to RTO is so funny to me. Must be horrible for you guys...you know getting to work at a standard start time and like....staying there all day.

Reading further in the thread, I didn't even think about how horrible it is for people to like.....see you when youre working. So fked up amirite.

That’s fine, but don’t be upset when I clock out at 5 and leave my computer at my desk

Bro, you're an expendable worker bee making 100k/year. Stop pretending like you're an asset to your F500 company. Your company doesn't give two damns about you.

Now get back to the office and stop complaining.

That's fine, unless of course it isn't fine with your employer, in which case they can either deal with it if they cant replace you, stop promoting you if you arent providing what they want, or fire you and hire someone else. Pretty simple.

To each their own, you have your options as well:

Keep working within your employers parameters, keep working outside parameters and wait to be fired, or quit.

It's not all that complicated. No need to get worked up about it, you don't have to be a shill.

Good news is we live in a capitalistic society, so all this arguing really doesn't matter, you don't have to convince anyone of anything. WFH is either something that is beneficial to some employee-employer relationships that stays around in our market and is available as an option, or it isn't. It's not like it will disappear simply because the Man is mean. If it's the wrong move to RTO, those companies will pay for it.

I do both.
I told them I'm not going back to the office there is literally zero reason to go in. And you know what they let me stay work from home when you provide your worth you get rewarded.
I dont have to spend 1h20min commuting I don't have to loose 1h and 20 min of my life not doing what I want, I don't have to spend money on gas and wear on my truck.
Just because you are a miserable slob and want everyone else to be like you so you can frick off.

I give it 90 days until they come out and say less work is getting done now than in the past.

The workers bitching about this don't realize that a lot of these companies are using this as a silent layoff. They want employees to either quit or become less productive so they can fire them
