If they don’t like it they should find another job more conducive to their lifestyle.

Finance sector is not one of them.

So I'm now supposed to be upset because business real estate and city service industries are going to explode?

Not sure what’s worse. A grown man that works from home or a grown man that gets to work after 6:00am.

Hiring local and doing a hybrid schedule is so clearly the answer I don’t see why there’s even a conversation. We know there’s advantages to being in person. We also know that’s not needed 40 hours a week and avoiding commutes and wasted time boosts employee morale.
Walk around an office building AT LEAST 60% of people time is spend with an office door shut, or with headphones in in a cube farm

Where I work, hybrid schedules are not “fixed”, which allows desk sharing. You have to book your workspace if you’re going in person. Sounds like they only had capacity for the 60% that were in the building at any given time. If we instantly went 100% RTO the exact same thing would happen.
Thanks

f I come in and my work option is sitting at a long table arse to elbows with some dude talking on his Beats headset for 6 hours that’s it. I’m out.
What about a couple baddies wearing rose gold bose headphones?

Article is spot on about zoom calls while at desks. Zoom are a part of the culture at Chase now and it’s horrendous. Way too many people on different calls all the time. My boss travels in and sits right next to me yet we have zoom meetings while she’s here.
We haven’t gone back 5 days yet because of construction but it will be worse when we do- less manager office with the office seating = more loud zoom calls.

And then ALSO on days when I have a medical appointment or a worker coming to the house or whatever, as I am seamlessly integrating that into a solid WFH day where I avoided the worst commute day of the week, I think "How could we have gone so many years without doing it this way?".

I cannot stand when people lie to your face and think you’re an idiot.
Like the employees lying or exaggerating about how bad things are at the offices.
Seems like zooming and FaceTiming should be cut back some being back at office. Use a phone more if individual calls. All those people must be high up to all have downstream video conferences where only they speak because surely some kind of headphones can be used to limit noise from the other side of those conversations.

Hybrid is, of course, a sensible arrangement which allows companies to cut costs, employees to minimize commutes, all while still having the critical FaceTime for team building and training.
Whether plan or not I do think some kind of reductions are going to take place as they realize they need less employees to do the same level of work.

I don’t know why people think sitting someone in a cube farm fixes this

If we are honest its the same people at every single company and these people are just flat out lazy.
They do just enough to keep their job

Isn’t going back to offices also about changing some work cultures that have developed?
If people are using headphones or earpieces how is a zoom call any different than a telephone call as far as noise levels are concerned.

Don't bank with chase. I stopped years ago.

God, I miss the days of simple phone calls. Whyyyyyy have we normalized being on video with every single person we take a call with?
I will turn on my camera when I'm leading a scheduled webinar or something for a bunch of clients, but I am not turning on my camera when I'm WFH just to chat about something for 5 minutes.
The amount of random shite I've seen from people who always use their camera is wild. Like, someone getting their hair done at a salon. Someone aggressively eating a popsicle. Someone's entire living room area.

I have vendors and salesmen for vendors who get offended when I don't turn my camera on.

During covid so many people got called out for drinking during work hours based upon Zoom behavior LOL.

I think a lot of pressures on these companies are they have tons of real estate sitting empty or mostly empty and want to get the use of the space.
Posted on 3/10/25 at 4:25 pm to SlowFlowPro
I never turn my camera on for client meetings.
They can find someone else if that really bothers them. So far it hasn’t, apparently.
