I would renounce US citizenship before being forced to enter a military engagement against my will, regardless of circumstance.

It's really not even a question for me; such a mandate is an abhorrent infringement upon my pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Freeking draft dodger... Nice.

Physically I could handle it just fine, I think. The following orders without question wouldn't work for me at all now. That's why the military wants 18-20 year olds and not late 20 to early 30 people.

No, I would be a former American. They can lock me out of the country, I'll go somewhere less oppressive.

Every military pilot I have known pretty much walked in and said they wanted to be a pilot,

the first time I talked to a recruiter I told him I wanted to be a pilot, when he found out I was an engineering senior he got a hard on, good thing I found out about the Air Guard

Pretty terrible stance. Former American, and a draft dodger.

Refusing to engage in mortal combat is terrible?

Why don't you just get a pilot's license if you want to be able to fly. You talk about the military as if each branch and MOS is the same thing...it isn't. Travel isn't guaranteed either.

As an army veteran, all I did was drink, whore-around, participate in group LSD taking and sleep with some of my buddies wives. It was a good time but not something that college didn't offer.

It did provide some of the money for me to get my BS w/o having to scrape for every dollar.

Refusing to answer the call to arms from your country when needed after enjoying the benefits of citizenship up to that point is cowardice and terrible. Absolutely.

If you have already made this decision, you are not now a citizen, IMHO. Time to leave.

I think 2-4 year mil service at reaching 18 should be mandatory.

I don't think the US can afford this.

2 years in the service would do a lot of good for some people. They could mature and learn a trade before starting life in the real world.
I would guess over half the high school grads have no idea what they want to do after graduation. I know i didnt.

You think being in the military = engaging in mortal combat?

You sure work hard to demonstrate your ignorance don't you?

Sign nothing till you take all your tests and physicals and the recruiter shows you a set of orders for the school or schools you want with your name on them, then sign.

This is exactly what I did when I joined the Navy. I wanted to be a photographer's mate and I got those exact orders. My goal was combat camera but you had to do a second enlistment to get that and after my 5 years on a carrier I was pretty burned out.

I've been to more than 20 countries. Didn't get shot in in most of them. Partied harder than most college kids could dream of. Worth ever second. Went to college too. College is fricking lame compared to the military.
