I'm convinced Banksy could jizz in his hand and smear it on a wall and people would call it "a scathing critique of modern society"

No way in hell would I pay that bill. What the auction house is delivering is not what was bid on. If they force my hand, then I'm instantly pressing criminal charges on everyone involved for destroying $1.5 million of my property. I'd also have had an insurance policy worked out before a purchase that large to make sure it was insured the instant the gavel fell. I'm sure the insurance company would love to have a discussion with the police about what was done to the insured property.

It's probably best for everyone to just walk away with no money changing hands and let Bansky have his stupid little publicity stunt. On the other hand, it would be fun to watch someone with money, time, and the ability to hold a grudge nail his arse to the wall over this.

I think it would have been fun to watch the initial reactions of everyone in that room once the mechanical noises started up.

So is ol’ Banksy consistent in that he also shreds the money he gets for this crap?

You would be a fool. Those shreds probably worth 2x what final bid was for. Now tied directly to this stunt. Do you even "art" bro?

Hilarious. To the best of my knowledge Banksy isn’t pod for any of this, the owners of the property he painted is on are making the killing. He’s not in it for the money or fame (since we don’t know who he is) which does give him a legitimacy.

Nah, I "real world", bro. Give me $3M and I won't have you prosecuted for shredding my $1.5M piece of art.

This game is fun.

A good lawyer will argue that was fraud and finally put banksy behind bars.

Banksy was not the one selling it. He did not own it.

Exactly. It may be "ruined" but in the artworld, it's just been transformed into a new piece of historical art that is probably "more valuable" now.

"The infamous self-destruct art piece by Banksy, the first like it in the history of art!"

Not much different than those stamps with the airplanes printed upside down. Not considered garbage.

Having said that, the art world (especially 'modern art') is at it's best, a self-indulgent circle jerk for pompous dickheads, and at it's worst, a blatantly obvious method for laundering money.

Definitely much cooler now that it’s been shredded.

Read up on Banksy. He’s not the one selling his art in these situations.

He tried to sell his art in New York on the street and people didn't know who he was, only a few people bought it. $60 could of got you a nice return.

How did it know it had just been sold and time to start shredding? He must have had a remote control for it or something.
