How many of you or someone you loved were present at a business when an armed robbery occurred ? What was your reaction? Surreal ? Panic ? How did the experience change your outlook on life ? Or did it ?

I’m in my 50’s, and I have never been in a situation where I feared for my life but a restaurant that I frequent was robbed with customers inside.

I was working at a restaurant when a guy came in the back with a gun and tried to rob us. He was unsuccessful.

Albertsons in BR. Some people robbed the bank in the front the store. I had no idea and was by the dairy section and a guy came out the meats area and told me to come in the back to hide. I kinda laughed it off then saw the cops at the front of the aisle. Didn't see any of the robbery though

I’ve never experienced an Ahmaud Arbery but living in Baton Rouge or New Orleans you hear about them all the time.

I was working at Kroger both times we were robbed at gun point. The first time I was in high school as a cashier and the last time I was working in the back. It was crazy. Your body freezes up when the guy points a shotgun in your face.

I worked at Winn Dixie in HS when it got robbed by several armed dudes. One of them had a Mac 10 or similar style gun.

I heard the screams and commotion and went to see what was going on and saw the weapons and thought, well, back to the stock room for me.

Saw a cop shoot a guy in a Walgreens parking lot after a carjacking and he bled out.

But it was a white guy so that didn’t count.

Grab your popcorn for a CSB.

I've been involved in 5.
2 direct and 2 as a dangerously close witness. 1 as the guy was shot and I watched him outside my apt.

1st. 1993 in my parents neighborhood at a stop sign. Punk kid robbed me with a little 25 cal. I was traumatized for a while by that image of a gun pointed at my ribs in my passenger window. We figured out who did it but nothing happened to him b/c he was 12 fricking yrs old.
He's in Angola for murder now.

2nd. 1996 at Pizza Hut on Nicholson. Small Sliders is there now I believe. I was washing dishes when a robber came in. Ran by me with manager in front of him to get the camera tape out the VCR. He pointed his big arse 45(or another big holed barrel) at me and said "Don't go no where big boy." I stopped washing dishes and put my hands up. He was gone quickly. Turned out to be a childhood neighbor of mine and friend of my brothers. He was nice dude who got addicted to crack and luckily we didn't recognize either. I got out of testifying against him based on knowing his family. He did 22 yrs or so and is doing okay these days.

3rd. 1998 same Pizza Hut. I got back from delivery as a robber was running out. He didn't point the gun at me but that is traumatizing b/c he had just beat our manager in the head(alone at the time) and promised to kill him b/c he couldn't open the timed safe. Had I pulled in the lot 1 second sooner and met him at the door, I have nightmares about what would have happened. He wasn't caught.

4th. 2002 Papa Johns on Siegen by Calandros.
Get back from delivery and hear a muffled scream from the Laundromat next door(door was open). We knew the owner pretty well as some drivers used her machines and we'd make change for her and give her pizza here and there. So, I walked to the entrance and called out "Hello! You okay?" Then walked back next door. Right as I walked in the Papa Johns door, the robber ran right behind me in front of our store. I yelled "Call 911, that fricker just robbed the Laundromat." Then ran out behind him and said something like "hey!". He turned back at me for an instant but then kept hauling arse. After realizing I was a fricking idiot for yelling at him, I ran back to the laundromat and the little Asian owner popped up from behind the back counter with a busted lip. I told her "stay down but don't worry he's gone. Cops are on the way."
This was exceptionally traumatizing b/c he he was 30 feet away from me holding her at gunpoint on the floor behind a half-door counter while I called out for her. I almost walked back to counter look back there but figured she may have been chatting on the phone or yelling at her daughter. I believe I would have been shot had I approached that counter.

These cocksuckers were never caught. I saw his two buddy's running across lot in front of Calandros. And gave detailed descriptions of all 3, and even direction they ran across lot, behind RiteAid and back towards Meadow Park/Perkins Village.

5th. 2013 Oakleigh Apts on Perkins. This piece of shite waited for my neighbor to leave for work one morning and broke in his apt looking for weed(the neighbor was not a major player as he had a real job and maybe an ounce of weed in the apt). But neighbor forgot something and came right back. His 3 yr old was in his carseat in the truck when he surprised the robber and got shot. He died right outside my apt window with his son oblivious to the whole ordeal. His mama hurried home from work as a prison guard to come get the kid from the Social Worker lady. We were letting the kid play with our dog when she got there. That was downright heartbreaking. I did solve that murder though.

The trauma from armed robbery is often understated. The first two that happened to me are bad enough when the robber is clear about demands and tell you just give up the shite and they're on their way.
But armed robbery with violence and threats to kill the victims, like what happened to my manager and that Laundromat owner, should be punishable with life in prison. That trauma is unreal and long-term.

Worked for Loomis Fargo about 25 years ago. One of my coworkers was getting the cash out of an atm( one of the small buildings on campus) anyway the robber comes behind him with a gun pressed up against his head “give me the bag or I’ll kill you” of course my coworker gave him his bag. The robber takes off running with the bag, it was a Saturday and the bad guy thinks he is going to get away. LSP was having training that day and he ran right into them. He got 30 years for the armed robbery, the funny part is my coworker hadn’t put any cash in the bag yet,,, he got 30 years for a bag with rubber bands in it
