Understandable. Some of our greatest ever are buried there the desire to associate with greatness even in death is understandable.

I'm assuming your mother has already passed if so I'm sorry. I can reserve a plot for me and my wife at a local veterans cemetery that's another option I consider.

She hasn't, actually. Both are in their 70s, though.

They already have a side by side picked out that's a few miles from where they met in Pennsylvania.

ETA:

should've made that more clear in my first post... but thanks for being a gent.

Ex military here lake. I want too be cremated I don't really want to be buried anywhere. Told my 3 kids to throw me in the ocean so I can surf in eternity. We all surf together now so that way they can always remember me when they go surfing.

Is there a difference between ashes and dust? And why are ashes to ashes and dust to dust?

I'm to be cremated, and my ashes divided into five equal lines.

My five nearest relatives each get a straw. Whichever one snorts his or her line first gets it all.

You need to discuss this with your family. It's a tough call, lot of history and honor being buried in Arlington, but if it's tough for your family to visit it's not fair to them. My cousin's wife faced this decision when he was killed. She decided on Arlington but I think the fam pressured her into it. She wanted to bury him close to their home

Nuff said. It's worse than selfish. I AM ex-military and I feel I do not deserve to be buried there. I served my time next to people that deserve to be there. I didn't do anything that makes me feel I am good enough for that honor.

Maybe you would see things differently if you had experienced these things. Take the training where 18 yr. olds are taught to kill ... and some went on to do just that .... and some were killed. Stand in formation with infantrymen where purple hearts are so common no one thinks it's any big deal. Bury a classmate that was killed in action. Be the son of a father that spent 4.5 years in WWII before being injured in Germany, an injury that would cause him problems for the rest of his life. Take a friend to lunch every other Thursday that was injured by an IED in Iraq and lives on pain pills now. Yeah, the person that has been and is privy to these things is me ... and there is more. I've seen those that deserve that honor.

I walked out with only bumps & bruises from a 2.5 ton truck wreck. I don't deserve it. I'm not sure you even deserve to be let in the place for only a visit.

OH WTF MAN, DON'T DO THAT shite TO ME. Dam you! I get all .. whatever da fuuk it is .. upset, one of the very few subjects I take seriously on this site and then you do this. WTF over. If the above is the truth by all means have them put your dead carcass up there. Don't worry about the family visits. They ain't going to drop by very much anyway. They will never forget the trip and ceremony.

Thought: The longer you put it off the less chance you will have of anyone left alive that would visit your grave.

I'm assuming you are telling the truth now so I have to add thank you for your service.

I would love to be buried there, and while technically I qualify for a spot I wouldn't want my sorry arse dead body taking space for someone way more deserving.

Unless I end up president one day, then hell yeah I want to be buried there.
