Are you legally allowed have someone surveilled for any reason?

If I go see a private investigator and tell them to follow someone and take photos will they ask me why? And will my answer determine if they will do it or not?

I'm sure that's a legit reason. I'm wondering if i just want to find out where someone lives and maybe whom with but I don't even "technically" know this person would they still do it?

At least until they get the restraining order.

Absolutely.

Always you have zero right to privacy in public and anyone can film or take pictures of you whenever they want to.

Is it legal for someone to move freely in public and look at someone?

Yes, that is legal.

Ask the private investigator. They will know what they can legally do for you.

Yeah that’s not legal.

At first, we thought it was a simple, “trying to see if the wife is cheating on me” type of investigation. But what you’re asking for can not be legal. There’s no way.

Addresses are public record and available in subscription based online databases. Hell, they used to be listed in a big Yellow book dropped at everyone’s doorstep. If they own the home, the property and mortgage documents are on file in the Mortgage and Conveyance office.

As long as you aren’t filming someone for lewd and lascivious purposes, there’s no expectation of privacy in public. If the person complains of harassment, and gets a TRO to stop it, then it becomes illegal. But as it stands, it is perhaps creepy, but not illegal.
