NASA

quote:

Following a series of critical contract awards and hardware milestones, NASA has shared an update on its Artemis program, including the latest Phase 1 plans to land the first woman and the next man on the surface of the Moon in 2024. In the 18 months since NASA accepted a bold challenge to accelerate its exploration plans by more than four years and establish sustainable exploration by the end of the decade, the agency has continued to gain momentum toward sending humans to the Moon again for the first time since the last Apollo lunar mission in 1972.

NASA and lots of high-ranking federal officials have made many recent statements saying that we will be back to the Moon by 2024.

Does anyone with any behind-the-scenes knowledge know for sure how things are going? My only cause for concern is that I would think there would be many tests of the the actual spacecraft before a successful mission. Apollo alone went through 2 years of test missions (1967-1969) before the actual first landing occurred.

Doubt it.

Trump was more of a supporter of the space programs

Dems will move that money to social justice stuff

My guess is 2024 is a bit aggressive, probably 2025 or 2026. We will land cargo on the moon by then for sure but will drag our feet when it comes to landing people. But it will be using SpaceX’s starship rocket, not Nasa’s SLS rocket. That and with Biden coming in next week, NASA’s focus will be back on Muslim outreach and climate change as opposed to space exploration...

NASA there in 4 years? Doubtful. They are more concerned with the gender of their new moon astronauts than the rockets it seems.
SpaceX meanwhile..... they will be well on their way to terraforming Mars by the time NASA even gets SLS airborne.

No. The HLS budget that was approved was way under what NASA had asked for.

yep. And they really believe that going to teh moon is blasphemy. I wish I was making that up.

But Christianity is the one they hate, and criticizing islam is racist.

That was a 9/20 article. If the schedule in 9/20 has us going to the moon in 2024, then my guess is that it will be 2026 before the 3rd SLS mission is launched.

The test firing today was supposed to be for 8 minutes. It lasted about a minute. Gotta do better than that.

We were, or fairly close to it, but the whole Republic got derailed in November. This would now be deemed as too cisgender male patriarchal, and too nationalistic, so the money will probably be diverted to illegal alien benefits or something more practical.

Have we ever been to the moon? The question is worth asking.

Because there’s two types of countries, those that use the metric system, and those that have been to the moon.

2028 at the earliest and it won’t be with SLS. It will be with Starship. Too many delays and issues with SLS.

No. Biden will return NASA to the primary mission assigned to it by Obama, namely outreach to Muslims.
