I know a lot of the TV lawyers, and, no, they aren't cool. They're a mix of uber nerds, OCD afflicted narcissists, and aging HS jocks who were smart enough to get into law school. These are fellas for whom the practice of law is a scam. Allowing the kind of media advertising campaigns for the past 25 or 30 years has significantly eroded the profession, IMHO.

Agree 100%.

No. They are not cool. They are ego driven stuff shirts that care more about themselves than clients.
Look.... Advertising on TV is easy. All it takes is writing a check. 90% of lawyers could do it..... But most choose to actually have relationships with clients and respect the profession.
I wish lawyer advertising were prohibited. Period.

I did some work for them a few years ago. Nice guys. Better than most clients we had at that company
I have shared many a beer with 2 of the 3 partners at DB. They are both fantastic guys and funny as hell. OTers everywhere would like them both.

A third tier TV attorney here in Houston was having dinner with his wife and were sitting next to us. He got extremely belligerent to his wife and the restaurant staff so what did he do? Turned around and sat down with my dad and I

Which is why many end up before the office of disciplinary counsel or in front of a bankruptcy judge. That advertising costs a fortune and is the only thing driving most of those practices. A bad few months can really be a gut check when you have $100k+ going out the door to advertising agencies. Or you get too big - without hiring enough lawyers - like the E Guarantee and your paralegals start practicing law.

but DD parents told them to help people
. My favorite is "Chip" Forstall and his singing commercials. There are many reasons to hire an attorney but that is not one of them

You think you have bad lawyer ads...I can top them with these beauties. Always with the tag line, "we'll turn your wreck into a check".

Has anybody counted how many billboards Gordon McKernan has on I-12 between O'Neal and College? I bet it's in the double-digits.

How is a profession that tells it's members how they must conduct themselves against the 1st Amendment?

What do poor folks do if there is no contingency fee?

So you defense guys get your fee essentially guaranteed since you're dealing with multimillion dollar corporations, but we've got to assume more risk and can't be rewarded for assuming that risk?
Hmm.
Hmm.

Advertising lawyers are really wealth-redistributors. The 'layabouts' at home love this system.
Working people pay insurance. Wreck happens. No injuries. Go see a TV lawyer. A chiropractor 'treats' them.
Later, a settlement, TV lawyer gets money, chiro gets money, 'injured party' gets money. Who pays? Premiums.
Who benefits:
Poor
TV Stations
Billboard company
Chiropractors
TV lawyers & staff
Insurance companies (they raise premiums & have 'boogeyman')
Who looses:
People who pay insurance.
How to fix it? Loser pays. End contingency fees. No-fault insurance.
The pendulum of lawyer advertising has swung too far. Watch daytime TV. Drive on the interstate. Too much.

I think Florida tried no-fault and abandoned it after a few years. I'm on the throne on a phone so I won't be doing any research, but I'm pretty sure they got rid of it because it didn't work.
