Are things getting worse for muslims, blacks, and other minorities in the US?

A few Muslim and black friends have insisted that things are getting worse for them, and many are scared by the outcome of this election. I've yet to see evidence of this myself, but I don't want to just tell them their fears are invalid. Playing devil's advocate here, can someone provide statistical evidence that things are actually getting worse for minorities? Conversely, if there is evidence to the contrary I would be interested in seeing that, too. Have attacks on minorities or hate crimes increased, decreased, or stayed the same? Any other metrics to measure sentiment towards muslims and blacks would also help.

On my Facebook, gays and persyns of color are being attacked left and right. It's literally genocide.

Onama took office in '08...around the time social media exploded along with more websites w/ comment sections across the Internet. I'm sure a lot of the extreme examples they claim are manufactured by the left to perpetuate the myth that it's happening on a large scale

While I certainly don't think things are getting better, I think their fears of things getting worse based on the election results will not come to fruition.

They had a black man in the white house. He could have lifted up minorities and made huge strides in bringing the country closer together than ever before.

I believe some in the AA community thought their standing would better under BHO and it didn't materialize, AA for being the sake of being AA...foolish thinking.

There is so much crazy shite online now I don't know what to believe.
If your story is genuine, that sucks. Trumps victory didn't make anybody an a-hole that wasn't one already. Take a picture with your phone and call the cops.
Keep in mind our current president did a great job of increasing the racial divide by his behavior.
But I take exception to your claim that some people acting like jerks is equivalent to the millions that were killed in the Holocaust.

I have friends that are worried too. I don't see it, but I'm also not on the lookout for it.
Do I think most of this stuff is embellished? Yes. Do I think racism doesn't exist? No, it still does.
At the end of the day, there are still racist jerks out there, but it's also an incredibly easy thing to jump to. I lived in New Orleans East and some people were just mean as hell to me. I always had to wonder, do they hate white people, are they jerks, or did I do something to cause this. It's so damn easy to just assume you know why they are jerks.
