Probably. It certainly wouldn't surprise me.

If you do know of someone who does this, how well do they do?

Must've been a bad attorney to live as a pro poker player on BR. Nola, maybe. Florida/Vegas/California sure.
BR, not happening.

I don't know about Baton Rouge, but I know a couple in SWLA. One does very very well, the other is retired and scrapes out a living to add to his retirement. I think the latter just has nothing better to do, and no real friends.

I know a professional poker player that will go into Harrahs on big Nola weekends and just clean house on drunks that think they can play.

You mean other than SFP?

The poker table is the one place at the casino that everyone says they win. They are clearly lying but when I'm drinking sharing casino stories, everyone seems to act like they've never lost at the poker table

Actually, he plays at Harrahs in New Orleans, although I wouldn't be surprised if he travels sometimes.
Guess I should have been more clear. From what I can tell, it's less stressful at the very least.

Are you the "real estate appraiser or inspector" pro?
I have no idea what you're talking about

Also by pro player, I meant they don't have other sources of income besides retirement
So did I. You can't say "well they make 75k a year" under the assumption we will all know that number included their retirement benefits. I mean you can but it's not very intelligent.

You think the annual income is higher or lower?
Much lower

If you look at some of the others like Slim and some of the online grinders from BR, the tournament guys, and the LBR/ Harrahs regs I feel this 25-50 number is close.
When Slim won his PLO bracelet he had no money and was being 100% backed. I'm good friends with the guy who backed him. There are no more online grinders the player pool on Bovada or ACR isn't nearly high enough.I know you feel like you have a good grasp on this stuff but you are pretty far off.

I played when I was in college. I'd sit on the boat and drink coffee and wash down an adderall xr every 14 hours or so.
Realized I (we) had a problem when I, who was working for 7.25 an hour at the time, check raised an $8000 raise in a game I had no business in.
I had the chips on the table, but I had no business playing in there.
When you get too cocky, it's time to GTFO.
I played conservative for 10+ hours and then would play like a bully for 2-3.
Most of the time it worked. Sometimes it didn't.
I sat down at l'auberge recently during bella's ball and went from $30 to 600 or so quickly. Had an Asian kid sit down and just work me. Granted I was drinking bourbon, not coffee. But I still shook his hand after.
Longest I ever played for was over 30 hours straight.

Just when I think OT has nothing left to offer me, this Gem arrives to keep the streak going. Plays Magic the Gathering for money.

The only thing I know about this game is that it is a card game nerds play. Never knew you could play for money.

How did the check raise on the 8k bet turn out?

When it comes to poker...
You've got to know when to hold 'em; know when to fold 'em; know when to walk away, and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table; there'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.
Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin' is knowin' what to throw away and knowin' what to keep,
'cause every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser, and the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.

I doubt there are any real pros in L'Auberge - the rake/time charge is too high. The good players basically clip any fish that swim in, then swap chips between themselves in a zero sum game.
