I have a question if so. Just had brain surgery 9 days ago and am trying to get home health care ,but my iv antibiotics are supposed to go for 6 weeks..I just wanted to know if this vank or bank antibiotic can be done from home every 8 hours. The other thing I'm talking can get administered intra muscularly.
Also,is there a chance that they will cut the vank early based on my blood work ,which is getting better and better.
To be clear ,it was an abscess infection that they got 5MLS of yellowish pus off of. I had 3 seizures and couldn't speak more then one word at a time ,if that.my left arm was basically paralyzed but I'm fine now after the surgery ,I'm close to perfect now.
I just want out of this nursing home where I have to do the ivs. They say its cuz of my pick line and they don't want to send me home with it...
Any info on finding a way to do home care is what I'm after. Thanks and sorry so long

You need to speak with a social worker at the facility — they can relay the orders to home health companies and the company can say yes they can or no they can’t provide the service.
I mean your doctor can too — hell have to write the orders but social worker can get the ball rolling. DON should also be able to tell you if it’s been done before.
And glad you’re better.

You not leaving a medical facility with a pic line
Also, antibiotics that strong IM would be very unpleasant
Have patience before you cause a new and potentially worse problem with infection

bullshite. Had a picc line in my chest for well over two years. They have small portable IV, battery power pumps. Had a nurse come in twice a week to clean and change the bandages.
Good luck.

I'm no doctor, but I'm glad your procedure went well and you are recovering.
Being in a nursing home would suck balls, but at least it's a short term situation.
I hope things continue to go well for you.

The surgeon was your Mother, right?
I do not know the answer, but tiger91 has good advice.
Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery!

They say its cuz of my pick line
I had a pic line in for 6 weeks because of an infection in my spine. I did the treatments myself and a nurse visited once a week.

You can definitely be home with a home health nurse administering vancomycin in a picc line. And they will keep you on it for at least 6 weeks even if you feel great and the labs are fine.

If you are getting Vancomycin or “Vanc” you most certainly can and will need to keep your PICC line. Vancomycin has a pH of 3.9 and is considered a vesicant. It is not something you give IM, most facilities won’t give it in a peripheral IV you need a central line (PICC is a central line).
Your case manager can set you up with a home health nurse who is trained to access and infuse medications, or if you are comfortable enough you can do it yourself, however dressing changes, etc require aseptic technique.
ETA: Another thing to consider is if you are near a compounding pharmacy, you should be able to get a larger dose and store it in a fridge. They can compound it up to 1.5 grams/dose so you can take it Q24 rather than Q8 although there are other determinants. Be sure to take probiotics it is a strong broad-spectrum and it’s easy to end up with c-diff and that is no bueno.

Seriously, happy to help.
