My mom was a partner at Ey before she retired last year. Even she tells me to stay mobile even though she was in the same company for 33 years

It’s very dependent on the career field.
Very true. Also depends heavily on what you are doing.

I work as an IT contractor for the federal government. I have been doing the same job for the same federal agency for 5+ years, but I have changed companies several times as contracts have been re-awarded. I much prefer to stay in the position and jump contracting companies as opposed to staying wit one company and moving around from contract job to contract job.

lol... If that’s true, then you’re one of the last people they need.

Been with the same hospital for 9 years now. I love it here. Good pay, boss leaves me alone. With that said, I would leave for the right offer.

To some extent yes. Seems people, and companies, are so darn "mobile" it is wise to keep one's head on a swivel

First company - I stayed 8 years, got laid off because I made more than anyone else in the dept.

Second - 1 year, got an offer I couldn't refuse with another company

Third - 3+ years now. Sitting on an offer now that is 10% base bump, more expensive benefits, but higher bonus potential. Not sure what to do but loyalty isn't in the question. If I see a better opportunity to scratch whatever I can from this earth and give it to my family, I will take it,.

Employees can be treated as expenses or as assets. Figure out how your company views you and plan accordingly.

I don't really see the benefit of staying at the same company, if you are valuable/marketable. You won't get nearly the pay increases by staying put, as you would if you move on.

I jumped around a bit early in my career. I never really look for new jobs, I typically get contacted by recruiters, though.

I just started this job I'm at now, about a year ago. I don't think it's a permanent job, but it suits me now and I'm not out looking for anything else.

Correct. Loyalty is not rewarded. I've been with my company for over 10 years now. The only reason I got a big bump in pay is because I ended up telling my supervisor I was looking elsewhere (someone saw my resume online...and ratted me out). He did not want to lose my skill set. I was fortunate. The fact I have been a loyal employee did not weigh into the decision, it was the fact I was looking elsewhere and my supervisor did not want me to leave.

Work for yourself...not your company. Look in the mirror each morning and be proud of what you're doing.

And never...never...have any kind of loyalty to a company you don't own.

Incredible how quickly Chevron’s culture degraded. They used to have an awesome culture, but that is long gone.

yes. companies dont care about being loyal to employees anymore, and the easiest way to get a substantial raise these days is to jump ship.

Loyalty is for chumps. I love my job but I would leave in a second for more money.
