They are huge in Poland. Theres a big one outside every big train station. I thought it was like going back in time. Indoor malls make a lot of sense practically. It is a bit strange that they fell out of favor.

Most malls have become the malls white folks use to go to

I wish CDs would make a comeback and artist start actually making full albums (I mean they do now, but they will release a song then 2 months later put out an album. And I don't listen to a whole album much anymore because its too easy not to with streaming, where as with a CD, you put it in and just let it play.

I think Eastchase was a big reason for the decline....
We used to hit Eastdale on our way to or from Auburn and now we hit Eastchase.... if only to grab a bite to eat....

Cordova is hanging in there pretty well. Decent anchors (3 story Dillards!) and decent stores/restaurants in neighboring developments and out-parcels.
Hooters and Twin Peaks closed though....

Wife and I found ourselves at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi. It was a time machine. Crowded. All the stores you'd expect (Bellk, Dillards), not the ghetto stores that usually come in during a mall's last gasp.
And cops. Cops were present. And visible. I feel like that probably still had a lot to do with it.
Nothing like University Mall in Tuscaloosa or the Galleria in Hoover.

Decent anchors (3 story Dillards!)
Southland Mall in Houma checks this box, a 3 story Dillards. The only other original anchor still there is JCPenney.
Back in the day, early 1990’s, you had Dillards was just transitioning from a DH Holmes (I believe), Sears, JCPenny’s and a Woolworth’s in center court at Southland Mall as main anchors.
Now a Lynn’s Interiors occupies Sears and Woolworths was cut up into smaller stores that were American Eagle and Areopostale and the Shoe Department which are either gone or moved. The Sears wing is pretty much vacant. RiteAid became an indoor go cart place. AG Cafeteria became a Cucos and when that failed it sat vacant for over a decade before becoming a Red Seal Pizza.
Still empty is the back end of the Sears wing which housed the movie theater and a bank branch for American Bank. The movie theater had a center screen that could seat 600 movie goers and was one of the largest screens in Louisiana.
Nuturiaman was premiered there.
Sears was also separated into 3 stores when it was in operation. Sears main was appliances, home goods and clothing was attached to the mall. Sporting Goods, tools, and yard equipment was in a separate building by Sears closer to the old Service Merchandise building and Kirshmanns. Then the Sears Tire and Auto center was on an island off of West Park near one of the entrances.
Some of the grass fields at the rear of the property that were destined for future use that will never materialize since the center of retail shopping moved to MLK Boulevard, is now soccer fields.

It’s one of the most profitable in the nation.

Agree. Edgewater seems to be doing well or at least hanging in there.
Post-Katrina maybe around 2009 or so a bunch of stores didn’t come back and were replaced with local Indian/Middle Eastern type stores with like names, pretty out of place but whatever.

Orlando has some of the deadest malls I have ever seen. Fashion Square Mall’s busiest tenant is a planet fitness. Has like 60% of the stalls vacant on the conservative side.

They don’t allow “loitering” and their security enforces it. There are always Jeff parish PD there too.

There’s two malls in Wichita
Towne East is the nice one and is doing really well. Added a Scheels a year and a half or so ago in the former sears and that led a bit of a revitalization.
Towne west is smaller and a dump. On deaths doorstep. Owners are only in it for tax breaks. Can’t pay electric bills on time. Just an overall mess.

Lakeside Mall is the standard and has been for decades. I have no idea why it thrives while so many malls have failed across the country.
Lakeside isn’t the standard. Some of you truly live in a bubble. Malls in big cities never left. West coast has the best malls in the country
