Spinoff from the thread about the lady proposing to furniture. Are people crazier than ever or is it simply the ability to broadcast our crazy via social media?

Probably a bit of both imo, but people today sho be crazy.

Hard to say. On one hand, more people are definitely able to voice and share their shitty opinions and various concerns than ever before.

On the other, more people are on various medications for depression/anxiety what have you than ever before.

Just think about the 60s/early 70s. Hippies and cults and shite. Iran crisis, all sorts of wild stuff. People are way less crazy now than then for sure. Can you imagine hippies with Twitter

Giving everyone an outlet like the internet means the craziest would be the loudest and most vocal.

People have been told it's ok to "be real" and since most of us lack social skills, real life is starting to resemble social media.

The social fabric which once protected a more polite society has been shred and the crazy has been unleashed

I think we are trending towards being better, depending on your point of view, but really not that much different than past generations. We just have such easy and unlimited access to the world that we can see just how terrible humanity can be. You can literally just do a google search and finds articles, photos and videos of people doing absolutely horrible things to each other. Hell, you have websites dedicated to showcasing the most violent and grotesque sides of humanity. We are simply supersaturated with access.

I think the crazy ratio is constant, but now we just have a lot more people in general. And they all have access to twitter.

Social media allows the crazies to coordinate their individual craziness into a single force. That's why we have stupid shite like 36 genders and safe spaces.

It makes us more aware of crazy shite happening all over. Thirty years ago a baw in Louisiana would not have heard of a murder in say, Massachusetts. Now a local story gets shared and before you know it a fat bastard in Podunk, Iowa makes world-wide news because EMT's had to cut a hole in wall of his trailer to get him out. The stupid shite gets amplified.

They are the same. Now most hate their neighbors because of the dumbest shite. That's why I have a dog. She's the best all the time.

Proportion of crazy is the same, we are just more aware of them now. Crazy people live longer now too. A crazy dude in a small town in the 1800s probably was shot or kicked in the head by a horse before he made 25. Thanks law enforcement / modern medicine!

If there’s ever a crazy person in a small room of a dozen people, people would just avoid them, social media puts that crazy mind in front of the world to see and then it connects with other crazy or uneducated minds that escalate their thoughts again and again. It’s like a cancer of sorts. Not to mention most social media posts are not exactly sharing valuable information, most of the posts on any social media are just outlandish or trivial things so of course we think the general public is bat shi+ crazy.

People have always been crazy. The difference is now, media and so forth try to normalize it, where before, they'd be institutionalized.
