Everyone I was friends with in high school I still see. No need for that.
Within 10 years of HS, I'd say that roughly 60% of my class was no longer in town.
Within 20 years? shite, maybe 20% remained.

With Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook what is the point of actually attending a high school reunion?
Some of us don't use twitter, instagram or facebook.

Believe it or not, actually talking to people in person is different than social media. Human interaction is a kind of awesome thing for the most part.
I can dick around on the OT or other social media, and when I get tired, I close the browser and you frickers are gone. IRL people don't take the hint so well.

Attended my 30 yr reunion last year. I no longer live in the area and it was really great to get to sit and talk with some of my old classmates. Yes we can track each other on social media but person to person conversation is good for the soul.

Are high school reunions a waste of time?
absolutely, unless you still trying to suck dick.

I guess if you never left your hometown, I could see it
nailed it. probably never left the little town they grew up in and can't help running into the other loser, er, classmates that never ventured out.

I never understand the OTs hatred for social events
can't bull shite their way thru it like they do on a message board. All the people who have moved on will see what fat, awkward, losers they turned out to be.

Ive never been to one, but i would venture the after party at the bar would be a fish-in-a-barrel kind of situation.

Damn dude, you seem really angry and proud that you moved.
Also, going to Denham is technically "venturing out", so don't be a dick about it.

If you don't have anything else going on that night it's cool to talk to people you haven't seen in a long time. If you're single you should go and try and get laid.

Did not go to my tenth and was thankful for that. As happens, everyone is trying to impress everyone else as being something they are not. At the time, work had me away from my wife a lot and I was more interested in spending time with her. Interestingly enough, I later found out that some had wanted me to attend hoping that my checkbook would accompany me as they overspent on the event and actually had to beg the faculty that attended for money to make up the difference. I am glad I wasn't there as that would have been a bit of an embarrassment.
I did go to my 20th and it was ok, but not earth shattering.
After that, someone tried to put together a 35th and it never got off the ground.
Our 40th would have been a couple of years ago. However, there was no interest. People are either scattered all over the country or they are residing in some graveyard.
Truly, while I enjoyed my last couple of years of high school, moving out of town and going to college changes you. When you come back home, you realize that there is a bigger world and a bigger life. Those who never left and/or never went beyond HS, well ............

How many girls should I expect to already be divorced at my 10 year reunion in 4 years?

Damn, you moved to some generic suburb of a transplant city? You sound so urbane.

Look, man, you really shouldn't belittle those who were unfortunate enough to not be able to survive the harrowing trek across the Badlands, beyond the Colossal Pillar of Wasp Eggs, and slip silently past the roving bands of cannibal-marauders. We can't all be so lucky.

Did you know that there is still a qualitative difference in face to face interaction versus interaction through social media?
It's true.
the OP makes a valid point. people don't go to reunions to have deep, life altering f2f interactions with others; its mainly to satisfy some curiosity to see how people have changed over the course of 10, 15 years etc. Social media/networking has rendered reunions useless for many people.
For myself, i am still good friends with anyone i was close with back in high school. most of my high school acquaintances(anyone i'd be curious about) i am Facebook friends with and i don't need to "catch up" with, because i already know what they are up to.

My 5 year reunion was fun. Usually open bar and food. Can't go wrong.
