When people pay homage to the opinions of ‘scientists’, would you consider engineers lumped into those ranks, or just people who work in labs and teach at universities?

Does it depend on the kinds of engineer IYO (e.g. chemical v civil)?

Being an engineer, I am perhaps biased, But certainly some engineers are scientists. They perform science - studying chemical reactions, modeling reacting systems, modeling the behavior of materials, developing new products, processes, materials, etc. is that not science?

Not researching definitions and shite, when I think of engineers I think of mathematics—you know—facts and shite. Whereas scientists are basically hypothesizers (aka, best guessers).

The topical question is: Are medical doctors scientists?

Scientists are the ones that couldn’t get through the engineering curriculum

Depends on what they do.

I've had roles as a "scientist" and roles where I'm something else.

For most Engineering jobs, I'd say no.
But, plenty of Engineers are "scientists".

Possible for someone to be both but to answer your question: No. Engineers and scientists are two different things.

Typically engineers are more scientists than most "scientists".

Some are and some aren't, I would say most are not scientists including myself. A lot of us are just more focused on the practical use of science. Engineers that are more focused on research that pertains to scientific principals are definitely scientists.

No. Just socially awkward people, who are only married because they make decent money.

Technically, no. Science is theory. Engineering is implementation.

That's excellent.

Bill Nye is a scientist because PBS tells us so.

Probably depends on what they do. Like any other field, some are better than others.

I work for an environmental company. We have an engineer that is definitely more of a scientist than some of our actual scientists. It’s really funny to hear him and the geologists talk.

Im a Civil Engineer and by no means would I ever say I am a Scientist. Chemical, Petroleum, and Environmental probably could be considered in some aspects
