So yeah been hitting the gym a little bit since New Years.... get on an elliptical for an hour burn like 800 calories all is great... not sore and not even sweating.
So I try my hand at the jogging machine yesterday..... half hour 5 miles per hour and I'm drenched soaking sweat.... and I only burn like 200 calories.
What's more important soaking in sweat or a number saying that I burned 800 calories vs 200?

Chicks use ellipticals.
How do you feel now?

It's a fcking machine to do cardio. Judge for yourself how well it works.

Use a stair climber instead,

eliptical calorie counters are notorious for over estimating the calories burned ,still easy on the knees and superior to treadmills in my opinion

5 miles per hour? That's pretty much walking.
And do you actually believe the calorie counters on those machines?

Easy on the knees. Great workout but like somebody else said, do stair master instead.
Or just crank that puppy up to near max elevation and a high resistance. You'll feel the burn. Also go in reverse direction to hit the hammys hard. I like the elliptical
Diet beats everything though.

I've read that the calorie counters can be 10-20% higher than what you are actually burning.

Increase the resistance and your pace
I used to do 4 miles on an elliptical. Was it as intense as 4 hours of running? Hell no. But it didn't kill my knees or back so it was a good option for me.

True about the calories. One Snap I use has ellipticals that are accurate and it should be about 60% of what you get jogging. The easiest way to check for yourself is to check your heart rate. A 10 second count x 6 will tell you a lot more about your effort than the computer. 130 bpm on elliptical is normal for me. Steady state running on tread is about 160-180. Do the math yourself.

Dial up the resistance and sweat if you want. Knees are the reason it makes sense for me. Add cycling and an occasional treadmill, but seriously, add resistance and you'll sweat and maybe get butt-swole.

Get a heart rate monitor to find out how hard you are actually working on each.

138 vs 153

ignore the calorie count. it's an estimate that's most likely wrong.
if you're doing elliptical, do HIIT. 20-30 seconds all out as fast as you can, then a minute normally. keep going between these for 10-20 minutes

Use it like a man and you'll get a workout. I used to do 4 minutes regular and 1 minute full speed. For 30 minutes. You'll feel it.

If you're a weak pre-teen girl who likes to make unnatural motions for exercise.
What about the elliptical is a natural motion? If you have bad knees then just don't crank the stairmaster at level 20.

Yeah, they are kinda BS. But you can get an ok workout if you bump up the resistance and use the poles.
