Do you not realize that your being out here, even while driving a car, is inconveniencing others?
You cause us to get that extra red light.
You make us wait on you to turn.
You take away the good parking places from us.

Note to bikers: When I’m running on the trail and am already over on the right side, don’t yell out “ON YOUR LEFT!!!!” as you approach me from behind. You’re just going to scare the shite out of me and most likely cause me to jump over in front of you.

Just pass me like a normal human being esp if I’m not even in your way to begin with.

What's the difference between a cyclist and someone riding a bike?

To a high speed roadway? No, that's dangerous and stupid.

The level of entitlement?

15-20 years ago I was a very active cyclist and mountain biker. With the exception of a 2 or 3 lunch time rides a week, most of my rides were solo. Here's what I'll say. Utah is know for it's wide roads. When the Mormons laid out our transportation system, they wanted to be able for a team of oxen to do a u-turn on the city streets. Most of the major urban and suburban roads here have bike lanes. As a result, I've seen that conflicts between cyclists and drivers are reduced. In contrast, somewhere during that time period, I took an extended vacation in the cycling mecca of western North Carolina. Holy crap. I thought I was going to die the entire time. Even riding as far to the right as I could, so many vehicles got really close to me. I rode my borrowed bike to the guys shop and parked it. I didn't ride again that vacation. I told my family that if I lived there I'd give up road cycling, because the roads, while awesome, were too narrow. I eventually gave it up anyway for the same reasons, I didn't feel safe on the road any longer.

Part of the valid complaint of the OP and others stems from the fact that guys want to get on their bikes and ride 2, 3 abreast and chant on roads that really aren't designed for that activity. That's OK I guess, but if you're riding along blocking traffic fan, out to single file and let folks pass.

Western NC is full of blind curves and very slow uphills. I've never understood how cyclists would ever feel safe cycling on those roads. I honestly understand the driver frustration.

Once got stuck behind 3 cyclists on Hwy 276 on the NC/SC border. The cyclists decided to space themselves out and were going uphill. The problem is that there were so many blind curves, there was no way to safely get around them.

Thanks to the cyclists, I was driving about 10 mph. They turned the head and saw me, but they refused to move over to let me pass. That wasn't a one time thing. It happens all the time in that region.

We have a couple of canyon roads here that are similar. I'd always try give the "hand wave", "pass me" around in those. FWIW, it's hard to get a bike started going on a steep uphill which is why I would imagine why guys don't want to pull over (and let's be real it only mostly male cyclists who engage in this behavior.) Secondly, I think my Mountain biking experiences gave me a different set of bike handling skills and made me more comfortable being close to cars at slow speeds on tight corners, hence the wave arounds.

ETA: And I've been known to lecture other cyclist in my car for bad behavior. "Hey dude, you've giving all of us a bad name." It carries a little more weight when you've got 4 bike racks on the top of your Subaru...

I ride bikes 10-15 hours a week. At least half of that on the road. I dont get honked at or yelled at, because i pretend no one sees me or cares and i get the frick out of the way. I get it…. Unfortunately some “cyclist” think “sharing the road” means they should take an entire lane because they can. They are making themselves and everyone else less safe.

If it’s on a 25mph road or less I would agree, I don’t have an issue with it if they are going the speed of traffic. It should be illegal for a bike rider to be on a 35MPH or greater speed road though just like it’s illegal to have a Low speed vehicle on those roads. If you are impeding the speed of traffic due to your inability to go the average speed of traffic that is dangerous as hell and should be illegal.

ETA: hot take: I would suggest if you are a cyclist using a road you should be forced to register your bike and follow the rules of the road. If you don’t, you can be ticketed for things like running a stop sign and red light and lack of signals. I have no issue with riding on roads where it’s safe, but nothing pisses me off more than a cyclist on a 30mph+ road that just blows through a stop sign after holding up the flow of traffic for 2 miles because he can’t be passed.

I get that.

But some things you just have to accept when riding on a road with "Highway" in its designation....and I include the Blue Ridge Parkway in that group as well.

Or they'll just take over the road and then make you out to be the bad guy for going normal speed on a road designed for cars

I don't have any particular animosity for cyclists anymore, but they don't do themselves a lot of favors when act like they own the road and then don't obey traffic laws

The cyclists on Highway 5 between Frierson and the Port of Shreveport (two lane road) used to hog the lane, riding side by side. Then, the Haynesville Shale hit. The "block the entire lane" bit didn't work with those big trucks. It was amazing to see how polite they became.

They put up "share the road" signs. I'm going to check next trip, but I think they have been removed LOL.
