Just because Jr. blew all his money on beer and blow doesn't mean you should burden the taxpayer, baw.

Depends on their income and whether they're dependents or not.

I don't see why feeding someone who commits 12-18 hours per week to schooling is the responsibility of the American public.

I'm weird though, with the thought that people should have personal responsibility and put their hands in their own pockets instead of in mine.

I had some friends go this route, and most of them that did ended up not making a ton of their life. If you're able bodied and capable of working, wussing out and going that route is just going to hurt you long term.

Most college students have parents who claim them as dependents, so it would depend on the parents income. The parents would receive the food stamps. However, many students don't have parents who claim them as dependents, and many of them do receive government assistance such as food stamps.

Knew someone in college who used to sell his food stamps to other students so yes. He'd sell $50 worth of FS for $40 for example.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

A buddy of mine’s little brother got them while we were in college. I thought it was pretty shitty of him.

There are kids working 40 hrs a week and still going to school full time.

Nobody is too busy with schoolwork to not have at least a part time job to pay for food/groceries

It takes a special kind of loser to be young and able bodied, but still need food assistance from the American taxpayer.

I tried. I was working 25 hours a week as an intern making 11.50 an hour and they told me I made too much to qualify.

Iirc in Arkansas, if you go to school full time, you are required to work 30 hours a week.

I know the two are not mutually exclusive, but I would rather see assistance for those who are full time students that will enter the workforce with skills than for those who choose not to work at all and are doing nothing to learn marketable skills.

When I was in college, married with 2 kids, working 30 hours per week or more the ex and I decided to apply for food stamps. All was great, we qualified until they spotted I was a full time student.

Oh well, why would you help someone out who is clearly trying to get into a situation where they don’t need help. I still made it.

Why can’t your parents just send you cash?
