re: Are college bars just as popular as in the 80s/90s?

My bar had ladies night 4 nights per week. We had 1$ longnecks every night. Wednesday was hump day/night with Sex on the Beach, Sex on the Levee, Screaming Orgasm, Blow Job, Between the Sheets and Great Lei Shot specials.
and the famous Virgin Sacrifice Drink... If you could finish it without puking it was on the house.
God I miss those days as I sit here doing laundry, cleaning the cat boxes and planning out the shopping for the week.

Gridloc?
Tigerland in the 80s and early 90s was special. I have seen (and forgot) so many epic situations…..thank god there were no phones.

Yes indeed.
Pay phone on the wall, 225-766-9071, was all we had & thank god it didn't have a camera. I'll go to my grave remembering that number. What happened in the bars stayed in the bars.

Just curious if they still are. There were a ton of college bars when I went to LSU in the 80s/90s.
We’ve had-
Drinking age raised to 21, along with active enforcement
COVID
#MeToo
Smartphones
Dating apps
A bunch of recessions…
LSU has raised their academic standards
Millennials drinking less in general
All those things combine to make bars not what they used to be

I can not stress to you how much poorer (relatively speaking), how much less free time, and how much less disposable income (drinking money) the average college student has today compared to 30-40 years ago. While there are obviously still a lot of fratstars and sorostitutes partying it up at Fred's or the Rev on any given night during the semester, most zoomers simply cannot afford to go out as often as gen xers could back in the day. In many ways, the chronically online culture is an economic cope to deal with the fact that they cannot afford to be as social as previous generations. They work more jobs for longer hours for less pay while accruing more debt.

I’m curious how much more a beer or well drink is now compared to when I was there (not all that long ago)

My oldest is a sophomore at LSU and I don’t know if he’s ever been to a bar. I mean I guess he probably has but I don’t think it’s a major part of the college lifestyle anymore.

The college dudes my company hires seem to party like I did

Brain farted. I meant to say “preppy” types. I live near the college, so I pop in those bars every now and then. There’s not many of them for the size of the university anyway. There’s a decent mix of folks in the “college” bars, but the kids are a different type for sure.

I used to go to the Station and nail 19-20 year olds at 30. Time of my life

I'm just here to say that Chines Street in the 90s was a magical time.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Small school…so when I say college bars, I’m referring to a group of about 4.

If you spent $40, you were being carried out. No that’s probably like 3 high noons

How is that even possible for the bar to monitor that?
Late eighties at Respectable Street Cafe, WPB FL, I was underage and they marked you and gave a wristband. Wash the mark and long sleeve shirt covered the band. Order my drink and the doorman made a lap of the place and checked my drink. The rum smell in it was obvious. Got booted and I think on the ban list. Didn't go back though.

Dynamics change too if you go back another decade or two from this every neighborhood used to have its bar in baton rouge for example.
